About this file

This is Addendum No. 6 to RFB-150-25 issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department for Facilities and Support Services, Division of Engineering and Contract Administration for the Middleton Hall Dormitory Renovations & HVAC Bid Package 2 & 3 project at the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville, Kentucky. The addendum, dated January 2, 2025, provides clarifications regarding hydronic piping specifications, mechanical equipment, and wireless clock systems. Key technical changes include: confirmation that there is no new chilled water piping (existing piping to be reused), removal of hot water piping sections from specifications, addition of underslab sanitary piping specifications, and addition of a new wireless clock system specification requiring 80 analog clocks and digital wall clocks for operating rooms.

The addendum includes extensive mechanical and electrical modifications through updated drawings M2.1 and M3.1 showing revised naming conventions for hydronic lines serving heat pumps. A new specification section 275313 for wireless clocks was added requiring a Primex 72MHz OneVue Sync system with 5-year warranty on transmitters, clocks, timers and GPS receiver. The contractor must coordinate with the owner's IT department for network connections and obtain proper FCC licensing for the wireless system. Schedule 40 steel was specified for existing piping and cast iron for existing sanitary piping to establish baseline conditions for contractor bidding purposes.

Addendum #6

CHANGES TO DRAWINGS:

Mechanical

Sheet # Sheet Title Noted Update

M2.1 FIRST FLOOR MECHANICAL

PLAN

1. Updated naming convention for hydronic lines serving heat pumps.

M3.1 MECHANICAL PLAN -

HYDRONICS

1. Updated naming convention for hydronic lines serving heat pumps.

CHANGES TO SPECIFICATIONS:

• 221000 – Pipe for Plumbing o Added section for under slab sanitary piping.

• 232113 – Hydronic Piping o Removed Hot water piping section.

• 275313 – Wireless Clocks o Added entire specification

CONTRACTOR RFIs:

1) Mechanical plans are inconsistent regarding the piping system feeding the new heat pumps throughout. Some locations show “GS/GR” geothermal loop pipe connections, while many other areas are labeled “CHWS/R” for chilled water. Please confirm there is no new chilled water piping, nor an active chilled water system in the renovated design of this building at all, and that all new heat pump connections are indeed Geothermal piping. There is no new chilled water piping. The chilled water system is being demolished with existing piping to be reused. Addendum 6 drawings reflect the graphical changes to clarify design intent.

2) Hydronic piping spec 232113 has a section for Hot Water Piping. The renovation has no heating water piping to my knowledge, so does this sectionof the spec apply to where the geothermal connects to the actual domestic water? Or is it just inapplicable. Please advise. Confirmed there is no hot water piping in renovation. The hot water piping section can be removed from specifications.

3) What pipe material (assumed?) are the existing vertical hydronic piping mains where mechanical contractor will cut in new tees and valves for the new water source heat pump branches? (Visited the site meeting to see existing conditions but many areas are insulated and the piping underneath is unknown.)

Need all mechanical subcontractors to be bidding the same thing here, regarding what existing material for these many connections will be (which matters regardless of what NEW piping option is selected by the installer). Schedule 40 steel was assumed for existing piping.

4) Please provide material specification for underslab sanitary piping, none indicated in the revised spec section 221000 from addendum #2, but the plans and sewer riser definitely show some new underslab piping. Underslab piping has been added to specification 221000 in addendum 6.

5) What material (assumed?) is the existing piping for the underslab and above slab sanitary sewer?

Plumbing contractors need to know in order to cut-and-cap demo items correctly and also to know what materials will be needed at all new tie-ins, regardless of what NEW piping material is selected by the installer. Cast iron was assumed for all existing sanitary piping.

6) Mechanical spec 232113 indicates for condensate drainage piping to be copper type M. However, there are various other areas in the building (and in the plumbing specs) allowing pvc pipe drainage on other systems, so is pvc sched 40/DWV acceptable for condensate drain material? HVAC condensate shall be type M copper as specified.

7) Is all condensate drainage considered to be part of the “HVAC systems”, for price-splitting purposes on the bid form? Confirmed.

8) For price-splitting purposes, please indicate where the “HVAC” scope ends and the “plumbing” scope begins on sheet M5.1’s detail “Domestic Hot Water Heat Pump Control Schematic”, INCLUDING the BAS/Temperature Controls Contractor elements of this detail.

Detail on sheet M5.1 outlines scope for BAS contractor. Detail 4 on sheet M4.1 outlines scope for mechanical contractor. Detail on sheet P0.2 outlines scope for plumbing contractor.

9) Addendum #2 Q&A section confirms that Coordination Drawings are indeed required for the MEP trades, but that the method is by contractor preference. We need further clarification. Does that mean that all MEP contractors would create their own drawings and submit them for approval in whatever format, and that there’s not an overall “Coordinator” who meshes and clash-detects among all the various MEP folks? It’s unclear what the requirements and expectations are for “coordination drawings” among the subtrades.

Per specification 230500 3.34E, each MEP contractor is responsible for the development of their coordination drawings and the mechanical contractor is responsible for integration of all MEP coordination drawings into a single conformed set.
