About this file

This document is an Addendum for an Invitation to Bid (ITB) issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department for Facilities and Support Services Division of Engineering and Contract Administration for the Academic Building Renovation at Hopkinsville Community College, which is part of the Kentucky Community & Technical College System. The Addendum includes changes to the specifications and drawings, as well as responses to contractor questions regarding acoustical panels, acceptable door hardware and casework manufacturers, asbestos abatement, and paint stripping requirements.

The Addendum clarifies that there are acoustical panels on one wall of each of the two corridors, approves PBB as an acceptable door hardware manufacturer, and accepts Reynolds and Doyle as an approved casework provider. It also provides guidance on the asbestos abatement process, confirming that the General Contractor can conduct the CMU wall demolition after the Abatement Contractor has removed the asbestos-containing paint, and that the Abatement Contractor is only responsible for removing the angle bracket ceiling supports attached to the CMU walls. Additionally, the Addendum adds a requirement for the General Contractor to chemically strip the remaining existing corridor walls in preparation for new paint.

Addendum No. 1 February 19, 2024

The following Addendum Items shall be made part of the Contract Documents for this Project.

ARCHITECTURAL:

1. A100 Add sheet note 11 – “pressure wash, scrape, and sand to prepare existing painted CMU exterior walls to receive new paint. Paint all adjacent existing exterior CMU walls from door 704A to 812A. Refer to painting specifications for specific requirements.

CONTRACTOR QUESTIONS:

1. Acoustical Panel Quantities Q: In corridor 500 you have “OPP” at the plan note J/A303 which I assume to mean the opposite wall gets the same panel layout. In corridor 500 you do not have the “OPP” at this plan note area. Consequently, I am assuming that in corridor 500 there is only one area of the acoustical panels. Is this correct?

A: The drawings are correct as indicated. There are only sound panels on one wall of each of the two corridors.

2. Acceptable Alternatives – Door Hardware (Hinges) Q: In Section 087100, Door Hardware under, 2.02 Hinges A. Full Mortise Butt Hinges 1, a.

Acceptable manufacturers and projects, 1. Steel Five Knuckle Full Mortise Butt Hinges, Bommer is listed is an acceptable manufacturer. Bommer shut down in February of 2022, may I suggest … as an acceptable manufacturer, please list PBB Hinges.

A: PBB will be accepted as an acceptable manufacturer. PBB’s BB81 hinge will be considered equivalent to Bommer’s BB5000, Hager’s BB1279, and Best’s FBB179 hinge.

PBB’s 4B81 hinge will be considered equivalent to Bommer’s 5004, Hager’s BB1168, and Best’s FBB168 hinge.

3. Acceptable Alternatives – Reynolds & Doyle (Casework Provider) Q: Can we get Reynolds and Doyle approved for Casework?

A: Reynolds and Doyle will be accepted as an acceptable manufacturer.

4. Casework Drawer Inserts

Q: Are all the drawers to have custom metal inserts? Drawer Bodies: (Manufacturer’s Option) Steel drawer pans formed from 0.0359-inch-thick metal, metallic phosphate treated, and finished with manufacturer’s standards two coat, baked-enamel finish consisting of prime coat and thermosetting topcoat with a minimum dry film thickness of 1 mil for topcoat and 2 mils for system.

A: Metal drawer bodies are a manufacturer’s option and not a requirement.

5. Asbestos Abatement Q: Specification states that ALL CMU walls have an asbestos paint. Demo drawing D101 has sheet notes 1,2,3,4 &13 that pertain to demolition of CMU walls but do not have any Hazardous Material reference. The asbestos section of the spec does not identify any CMU wall demo. Can all the CMU demo be performed by the GC or does it need to be performed by the asbestos subcontractor?

A: The drawings at the end of the asbestos specifications 02080 indicate asbestos is present on the CMU's behind/underneath the paint on walls due to be demolished. At all locations, the Abatement Contractor is required to remove the paint and asbestos material and the General Contractor can conduct demolition activities on the CMU's.

Alternatively, the abatement contractor can remove all applicable walls with the paint and asbestos material left in place. All debris would be placed into a lined dumpster attached to the work area/enclosure with plastic outside of corridor door nearest existing room 110, as noted on D101. This activity and associated dumpster must be completed and removed within 45 days from start at the request of the owner.

6. Asbestos Abatement

Q: Sheet note 20, on demo drawing D101 identifies ceiling material to be removed by the asbestos subcontractor. This is not noted in the asbestos section in the specification. Can you confirm that the only task required by the asbestos contractor is the removal of the angle bracket ceiling support attached to CMU walls.

A: The only task for the Abatement Contractor, regarding the ceilings, is the removal of the angle bracket ceiling support attached to the CMU walls.

7. Asbestos Abatement

Q: Sheet note 26, on drawing D101 requires stripping of paint from brick. Can you confirm this is not an asbestos contractor task.

A: Requires stripping of paint from brick along the top of wall/concrete beam and at each end of wall. This task can be completed by the General Contractor. Asbestos is not present at these locations.

8. Chemical Paint Stripping – Demolition Sheet Note 25 D101 / D102

Q: Sheet note 25, on drawing D101 and sheet note 14 on D102 (both pertain to chemically stripping top layer of paint) do not appear at any locations on the drawings A: Add sheet note 25 to each corridor, chemically strip all remaining existing corridor walls (corridor side only) prep and prepare for paint as detailed in sheet note 25 and painting specifications.
