About this file
This is Addendum One to Invitation to Bid No. RFB-65-27 issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department for Facilities and Support Services, Division of Engineering and Contract Administration, for an emergency chiller replacement project at the Adair Youth Development Center operated by the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia, Kentucky. The addendum clarifies and modifies specifications and drawings for the project, which includes procurement and installation of an air-cooled chiller system. Key specifications require the contractor to provide and install a temporary chiller within the first 30 days of project start, including all necessary piping and power, with the temporary unit remaining operational until substantial completion. The chiller must include BacNet capabilities to communicate with new mechanical equipment and control the chilled water pump, though the existing control system will be reused without upgrades. The contractor must coordinate temporary chiller flex hose routing in the field with the engineer, with placement on asphalt acceptable in some areas but requiring support in others to avoid interference with entry doors and generator access.
Additional clarifications address existing infrastructure reuse and component specifications. The existing concrete pad for the chiller shall be reused without enlargement for the basis of design chiller; however, if an alternatively proposed chiller exceeds the existing pad dimensions, the contractor bears responsibility for concrete pad enlargement, subject to engineer verification on-site. The chilled water piping shown in the chase is to be reused as it enters and leaves the chase. The air separator must be equal to a Bell & Gossett R-6 unit with strainer, automatic air vent, blow-down valve, and drain piping to the nearest floor drain, with supports and mountings equal to the existing configuration.

ADDENDUM ITEMS
The following items shall be included in the Contract Documents for this Project.
ITEM NO. ONE (1)
SPECIFICATION 231670 – AIR COOLED CHILLERS
- Refer to Specification, Paragraph 1.01 o Clarify that the Contractor provide and install the temporary Chiller within the first 30 days of the Start of the Project including all piping and power required for the installation of this temporary chiller. The temporary Chiller shall remain operational until Substantial Completion of the Project is obtained. See Specification for further details.
o Clarify that the route indicated for the temporary chiller flex hoses are to be coordinated in the field with the Engineer. It some areas, laying the hoses on the asphalt pavement is acceptable, however in other cases the flex hoses shall be supported as they cannot interfere with operations of the entry door and/or generator access.
o Chiller shall have BacNet Capabilities. The intent of this specification is to reuse the existing control system and not provide upgrade of the control system with this project. The Chiller shall control the Chilled Water Pump at this time and to communicate with the new mechanical equipment. All new equipment are to have BacNet Communication Interface modules. A future Controls Project will interface the new equipment with the new controls system.
o The existing concrete pad for the Chiller shall be reused. No new concrete pad enlargement is required for the basis of design Chiller. If an Alternateley Proposed Chiller is of longer or wider physical sizes, then the Contractor is responsible for the increased dimensions of a concrete pad enlargement which is to be verified on-site with Engineer before its installation.
