About this file
This is an addendum to Invitation to Bid No. RFB-13-27 issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department for Facilities and Support Services, Division of Engineering and Contract Administration, for the 26008 AMLMAML AML Project in Hopkins County, Kentucky, dated July 14, 2026. The addendum addresses clarifications regarding project specifications and drilling requirements for an abandoned mine land (AML) subsidence remediation project on S. Highland Avenue. The project involves drilling and grouting operations to address mine subsidence issues, with anticipated drilling depths ranging from 55 to 70 feet to reach the fireclay below the coal seam, potentially extending to 80 feet for holes that do not encounter voids. The addendum clarifies that contractors must provide their own water supply for the project, including 400 gallons per borehole for flushing operations at a minimum flow rate of 20 gallons per minute, with metered measurement capabilities. Flushing operations will occur after initial drilling to improve downhole camera performance and after grouting for holes not filled to refusal with grout or left overnight.
The addendum establishes that it is the contractor's responsibility to provide all water supply and drilling equipment, including a water buffalo or tank with pump system capable of delivering the required flow rates, as well as a grout pump for grouting operations. Tremie tubes and pressure induction of grout are not required. Supporting documentation includes photographs of the mine openings and subsidence area in the wooded portion of the project site. The specifications are based on estimates derived from field observations, mine opening measurements, geologic surveys, and nearby mine maps. All additions, deletions, and changes specified in the addendum become binding on the resulting contract.

Addendum 1 for 25008AMLMAML
S. Highland Ave. Subsidence Project
Question 1: Project Specifications call for 400 gallons of water to flush holes after drilling and after grouting. Will water be available at the project site?
Answer: It will be the contractor’s responsibility to provide water for the project drilling as well as the required 400 gallons per bore hole for holes that will be flushed. Holes will be flushed after initial drilling to improve the performance of the down hole camera. Holes will also be flushed after grouting if they are not filled to refusal with grout and will be left for an extended time or left overnight. The flush water shall be provided at a minimum flow rate of 20 gallons per minute. The flow should be metered or have another means to measure the volume of water delivered to the bore hole. A water buffalo or tank with a pump may be required to produce the required flow rate.
Tremie tubes and pressure induction of grout is not required. A grout pump is required.
Question 2: What is the anticipated depth of drilling for each hole?
Answer: AML anticipates the depth to the fireclay below the coal seam to be 55 to 70 feet deep.
For holes drilled that do not encounter a void, drill depths may reach 80 feet. These depths are only estimates based on observation, field measurements of mine openings, and review of geologic quads and other nearby mine maps.
Question 3: Are photographs available of the mine openings and the subsidence area in the woods?
Answer: Please see attached photos.
