About this file
This is an Addendum One to a Request for Qualification (RFQ0531EC) issued by the Georgia World Congress Center Authority for an escalator modernization project. The addendum, dated June 16, 2023, modifies the original proposal documents from June 2, 2023, and addresses fourteen specific requests and clarifications from prospective bidders. Key modifications include acceptance of 3/8" balustrade glass as specified, allowance for deletion of sound isolation if the contractor demonstrates noise levels below 60 dB, requirement to provide oilless step chains as originally specified, and deletion of new truss isolation since existing trusses are not being removed. Additional clarifications address barricade specifications limited to carpeted areas, minimum use of standard 4' x 8' Masonite board, carpet cladding at the escalator base manufactured by Shaw with potential GWCC support for procurement if replacement is necessary, and working hours defined as 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during both event and non-event days, with night work available if needed.
The addendum provides scheduling guidance indicating that loud work should be scheduled on non-event days or at night when possible, as the escalators serve the Thomas Murphy Ballroom which frequently hosts evening events. A 2024 event schedule current as of June 15, 2023, was attached to identify potential project impacts, with events using the Thomas Murphy Ballroom highlighted. The addendum clarifies that Section 01030 regarding Alternates should be ignored, and instead, specifications in Section 2.6 D 8-9 regarding the controller port requirement for future monitoring system installation should be referenced. Bidders must acknowledge receipt of this addendum prior to the proposal due date or attach the signed acknowledgement to their proposal. A signed acknowledgement of the addendum does not constitute a signature on the original proposal document.

ADDENDUM ONE
GEORGIA WORLD CONGRESS CENTER AUTHORITY
ESCALATOR MODERNIZATION
RFQ0531EC
Addendum Issue Date: June 16, 2023
From: Georgia World Congress Center Authority
Purchasing Office 285 International Boulevard NW Atlanta, Georgia 30313
Addendum 1 is hereby issued to incorporate the following as requirements of the Request for Qualification, RFQ0531EC:
1. Section 01600, 1.6, G. – Request acceptance to provide 3/8” balustrade glass in lieu of ½”. 3/8” balustrade glass is acceptable.
2. Section 143100, 2.2,C.,1. – Request sound isolation be deleted if the contractor provides noise and vibration levels below 60 dBA. Provided the contractor can demonstrate noise levels below 60 dB, deletion of sound isolation can be considered.
3. Section 143100, 2.3,B.,2.0,d. – Request providing standard step chains with an onboard lubrication system in lieu of the Oiless step chain. Provide the oilless step chain as specified.
4. Section 143100, 2.7,B.,1. – Request deletion of new truss isolation since the trusses are not being removed and there is no access underneath the existing trusses. Delete new truss isolation for the reasons indicated in the question.
5. Section 143100, 2.9,C.,1. – Request acceptance of 16 gauge decking panels in lieu of 14 gauge. Provided the contractor can demonstrate noise levels below 60 dB, 16-gauge decking panels would be acceptable.
6. Section 00800, 1.13,A – Are we clear to barricaded off the area behind the two escalators on the lower landing? Yes, but only to the limits of the carpeted area.
7. Section 00800, 1.13, A – We will do our best to submit a barricade plan with our bid, but this will not be the final plan if awarded the project. We understand that the details of final logistics will be worked out with the selected contractor. The intent is to see the logistics approach.
8. Section 00800, 1.13, A – Does the GWCC have a standard foam and masonite product that we are required to utilize? Standard 4’ x 8’ Masonite board is our minimum requirement.
9. Section 01900, 1.1,B-7 – Our bid currently doesn’t address the carpet cladding located at the base of the escalators. Is this something you all want to address prior to the bid? The carpet wall base in this area is a manufactured by Shaw. We may not have sufficient attic stock and will work with the selected contractor on procurement if replacement becomes necessary.
10. Section 01900, 1.1, D – Does the GWCC have access matching carpet at this time or know there it can be bought from? The carpet in this area is a custom pattern manufactured by Shaw. We may not have sufficient attic stock and will work with the selected contractor on procurement if carpet replacement becomes necessary.
11. Please define normal working hours for this project while scheduled events are taking place and when scheduled events are not taking place. Normal working hours during events can be 7am to 5pm. Additional hours may be available if needed.
Non-event days would be the same. Night work can also be considered.
12. Please define working hours for loud work while scheduled events are taking place and when scheduled events are not taking place. Best efforts should be made to schedule loud work on non-event days or at night. These escalators serve the Thomas Murphy Ballroom which often hosts evening/night events so specific scheduling will need to be worked out with the selected firm.
13. Please provide a schedule of known events which this B25/B26 escalator work will impact in year 2024. A copy of the 2024 Event Schedule current as of June 15, 2023 is attached. Note that this schedule is subject to change. Events which will use the Thomas Murphy Ballroom are highlighted in red in the “Anchor Facility” column.
14. Please provide section 01030, Alternates. It is listed in the bid quotation form item
1.8 with an alternate for Escalator Monitoring System, but we do not see the section included in the bid documents. Ignore the reference to Section 01030, Alternates.
As it pertains to the monitoring system, the specifications call for a port in the controller 2.6 D 8-9 and what it must do. This port is required to accommodate future installation of a monitoring system.
This addendum will be a part of RFQ0531EC and modifies the original proposal documents dated June 2, 2023 as noted.
NOTE: A signed acknowledgement of this addendum should be received by this office prior to the due date or should be attached to your proposal. A signature on this addendum does not constitute your signature on the original proposal document.
