SAMPLE TCX800 Installation
Equipment Needed
- Screwdrivers
- Allen wrenches
- Electrical Tape
- Cell Phone with texting/chat application loaded
- Dust cloths
- USB drive with GParted (64 bit) loaded
- Zip ties
- Cart for moving registers
- Gloves, weight belt, other safety equipment for moving heavy equipment
Prior to the installation
Assembly
The TCX800 registers must be fully assembled except for the shopper display and zebra register scanner.
These components can be attached after the registers are in place. Otherwise the register must have all cables attached to the head unit and run through the arm, out the back panels.
Arrival The techs must arrive at single register stores 2 hours prior to the store’s opening. This will be scheduled as the store manager must be onsite to open the store. Otherwise, the installations will take place during business hours.
Technicians It is recommended that there be two technicians onsite to handle movement of the equipment, both old and new. The registers weigh approximately 100lbs. Technicians are to arrive at the scheduled times dressed adequately and displaying a company nametag. They are also to bring all necessary equipment for the installations.
Physical installation walkthrough
1. The technicians introduce themselves to the store manager and let them know they are going to begin work on register 1. Store manager is to remove any clerks on that register.
2. One of the technicians will initiate a chat with POS support using the chat application on their phones.
POS will give the final go/no go decision at that point.
3. The technicians begin on register 1. a. The register must be powered off
b. Unplug the register from the electrical outlet
c. Unplug the network cable for the register only at the biscuit jack. The PIN pad does not need to be moved or touched in any way.
d. Unplug the shopper display cables from the back of the register; 1 VGA and 1 USB 12v connection.
e. Unplug the cables from the shopper display.
f. Remove the shopper display and metal bracket from the metal pole. An Allen wrench is needed for this.
Leave the metal pole intact.
g. Remove the old register from the counter but leave the shopper display cables.
h. Clean the area using a dust rag. If there is any money or loose items, turn them over to the store manager.
i. Place the TCX8 register on the counter and feed the power and network cables, but do not plug them in.
The MAC address of the register must be correct as designated by the PLCB, otherwise the register will not image.
j. Use electrical tape to attach the old shopper display cables to the new ones, then pull the old cables through the metal pole. Once the new cables have been run, remove the electrical tape and remove the old cables.
k. Attach the new shopper display to the new bracket (requires a screwdriver).
l. Attach the new bracket and shopper display to the metal pole.
m. Plug the shopper display cables into the shopper display.
n. Remove slack from all cables and try to hide them under the counter as well as possible, then use zip ties to keep them together.
o. Plug in the network cable to the biscuit jack.
p. Plug the power cable into the electrical outlet. The register will start to boot once it has power.
q. Press the “Esc” key to enter bios.
4. Follow instructions below to Image and Test the register. Do not start another register until register 1 is complete.
Imaging the registers
1. Check that that MAC address matches what POS Support has. If the two do no match, the register will not image correctly. If the MAC address is not presented anywhere on the register, it can be viewed in bios (step 4).
2. If the register is not booting up (step 3p above), press the power button on the bottom right corner of the register.
3. Press the “Esc” key to enter bios
4. On the Main tab of bios, use the down arrow key to scroll down, the MAC address will be shown. Double check that the MAC address matches what POS Support has.
5. Use the arrow keys to go to the Boot tab
6. Make sure that “Network: UEFI: PXE IP4” appears on the list. The imaging process uses IP4, not IP6. If it does not exist, go into the UEFI NETWORK Drive BBS Priorities and set it.
7. Make sure that “Hard Disk” or “NVME” appears on the list before “Network: UEFI”
8. Use the arrow keys to go to the Save and Exit tab, and save the setting, then exit.
9. The register will image and reboot itself twice. At times it will seem that the register is not doing anything, but it is imaging. The process takes about 45 minutes.
10. When the POS screen comes up, set up the register scanner by scanning the setup QR code.
11. Contact POS support to let them know the register is ready for the final step. POS support will run the final setup and the register will reboot one last time.
12. Once the register has booted up, have the store manager proceed with testing.
Testing the register
1. Locate the store manager for testing
2. Check the shopper display for the correct images (sale dates, monthly sales, etc)
3. Have the store manager log on using their credentials and open a till with the standard amounts.
4. Check that the correct drawer opened when the manager opened a till; cables may be reversed if it was incorrect.
5. Have the manager test a gift card by doing a balance inquiry on any gift card, even ones that have not been used (should say that the card is not activated).
6. Have the manager do a minor challenge and scan a drivers license.
7. Have the manager enter an item then tender as credit. The PIN pad should respond to the register and ask for credit or debit. If this does not happen, report it to POS support. If the PIN pad did respond, no further action is needed, the sale can be cancelled.
8. Testing is complete, the next register(s) can be started in any order.
