ADDENDUM NO. 1

TUCKER AVENUE NEIGHBORHOOD STORMWATER IMPROVMENTS

PROJECT NO. SD-000032-074

This Addendum consists of a total of four (4) pages including the attached documents listed herein.

This Addendum is supplementary to the Contract Documents for TUCKER AVENUE NEIGHBORHOOD STORMWATER IMPROVMENTS, Fairfax County, Virginia.

All changes, additions or deletions included herein as Addendum No. 1 shall become a part of the Contract Documents as if originally called for in the Drawings, Specifications and Form of Bid.

1. Advertisement for Bid:

REPLACE: Advertisement for Bid, in its entirety

WITH: Revised Advertisement for Bid (pages 3-4 of this addendum), which includes additional instructions for attending the bid opening either in person or virtually via MS Teams.

2. Bidder Questions:

1) The plans or specifications provide the detail for the asphalt section. I see the typical section of roadway, but it doesn’t seem to provide the asphalt depths.

Please provide the asphalt depths for the different streets.

• In locations where asphalt replacement is proposed, the contractor is to match the existing asphalt depths. If depths vary, the thickest depth must be matched. (FYI: An older 2019 Geotechnical Engineering Report will be provided separately from this addendum, which contains some additional borings that were not carried over to the 2021 Geotechnical Engineering Report, which was already provided to the bidders. The Geotechnical Engineering Reports are for the Bidders’ INFORMATION ONLY.)

2) Please provide the depth of the existing pavements for the different roads.

• Existing asphalt depths are variable throughout the neighborhood and are not known for all locations. The contractor is to investigate and confirm depths during demolition.

3) Plan 4 of 104 shows two different hatch patterns for Full Depth Removal and Replacement and other that call for Full Depth Removal, but it doesn’t call for Replacement. Please clarify if both have to be replaced.

• Areas with the hatch pattern labeled as “FULL DEPTH ASPHALT REMOVAL AREA” are not to be replaced.

4) Please provide a Pipe trench detail showing restoration as well for the Storm Drainage and the Sanitary Sewer.

• Refer to VDOT details PB-1 and LUP-OC-NOVA special provisions for utility trench details. For sanitary sewer, refer to Fairfax County Plate 19- 10 for a trench detail.

5) Is there any additional environmental consideration about the observation wells other than the one shown on plans and the green technical specifications?

• The purpose of the observation well is to provide underground access for maintenance and to allow for the County to perform future assessments of the performance of the system, such as checking the length of time for the system to drain after a rainfall event. There are no additional environmental considerations.

Bidders are required to acknowledge receipt of all Addenda on Page B-2 of the Form of Bid, Section B. Failure to indicate receipt of any Addenda may be cause for rejection of Bid.
