About this file
Addendum No. 2 for Invitation to Bid No. FW-008-25 is issued by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources for the FILO - Rolling Fork Floodplain Stream and Wetland Restoration Project located in Nelson and Larue Counties, Kentucky. The addendum includes responses to five bidder questions regarding tree planting specifications, including soil amendments, mulch requirements, tree shelters, planting timeframes, and invasive species management. The responses provide clarity on planting schedules, survival guarantees, and potential alternatives, with an emphasis that any deviations must be approved by the Engineer and Owner.
The document indicates that the project involves vegetation restoration with specific requirements for bare root saplings, 3-gallon container trees, and live stakes. Planting timeframes are defined, with bare root saplings to be planted between December and April, and 3-gallon containers between September 15 and December 15. The project includes survival guarantees: 83.3% two-year survival for bare roots, 75% two-year survival for container stock, and 50% two-year survival for live stakes. The addendum also notes two potential additive alternates for invasive species management, with Alternate 1 anticipated during the 2025 growing season and Alternate 2 during the 2026 growing season, subject to approval by Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Responses to Bidder Questions
Questions in black text, responses in red text.
1) Will soil amendments be required for the tree planting?
Acceptable amendments are included in the specifications. Ultimately the tree planting work and any associated soil amendments, etc. is governed by the guarantee included in the specifications (a minimum of 83.3% two-year survival for bare roots, 75% two-year survival for container stock, and 50% two-year survival for live stakes).
2) Will mulch be required for the 3-Gallon Containers? I see mulch in the drawing listed as "per owner's representative", but no mulch required in the details and specifications.
Per the detail in the drawings, mulch may be required by the Owner’s representative, but ultimately the tree planting work and any associated mulch, etc. is governed by the guarantee included in the specifications (a minimum of 75% two-year survival for container stock).
3) Can Plantra SunFlex 5 ft. tree tubes be used in replacement of a 4 ft. tall galvanized wire shelter for container trees?
Any alternatives must be approved by the Engineer and Owner. Plastic alternatives will not be considered.
4) What are the target dates of the two additive vegetation management addendums? I only have found “in the growing season".
If either of the additive alternates for invasive species management are awarded, it is anticipated that Alternate 1 will take place during the 2025 growing season prior to breaking ground and Alternate 2 will take place during the 2026 growing season; however, the project schedule, including completion dates, must be approved by KDFWR in advance of the work.
5) Per the proposal, 1) Bareroot saplings are to be planted between December and April, and 2) 3- Gallon Containers are to be planted between September 15-December 15 during a maintenance timeframe. Will there be flexibility to plant Bareroot and 3G Containers at the same time in the spring?
Refer to Section 32 93 00 paragraph 1.08 for other planting schedules considerations. Any deviations from the required schedule must be approved by the Engineer and Owner and will not affect the guarantee. Ultimately the tree planting work is governed by the guarantee included in the specifications (a minimum of 83.3% two-year survival for bare roots, 75% two-year survival for container stock, and 50% two-year survival for live stakes).
