About this file
This document is Addendum #2 to the construction bid for the Pedestrian Bridge Replacement project at the Rifle River Recreation Area, issued by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) and the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB). The addendum incorporates interpretations, clarifications, and modifications to the original bidding documents, including the approval of substitute bridge manufacturers, changes to the bridge materials and finishes, and the addition of soil boring locations to the drawings. The bid opening date is October 23, 2024.
The addendum addresses various questions and requests from potential bidders, including the approval of TrueNorth Steel and Pioneer Bridges as qualified bridge manufacturers, the acceptance of C8x18.7 Corten channels as an alternative to the specified MC8x21.4 channels, and the approval of copper naphthalene treatment for the wood components. The addendum also clarifies that the bridge is to be constructed using weathered steel (Corten) and that no additional surface preparation is required beyond brush cleaning of loose rust scale.

A2.5 Q: Pioneer Bridges Substitution Request.
A: Substitution request is approved.
A2.6 Q: Checked several sources on the Corten Channel. The best and closest located is a 8 X 18.7 Channel. MC 8 x
21.4 isn't available since COVID. Is there an alternative to the required MC 8x21.4 Channel.

A: Yes, it is acceptable.
A2.8 Q: Is fiber reinforced plastic or fiberglass grating acceptable in place of composite decking?
A: No
A2.9 Q: For the finish on the weathered steel: we would like it to be sandblasted to a SP7 surface with highly visible flecks. Is that acceptable?
A: Surface preparation is not required. Brush cleaning of loose rust scale is acceptable.
A2.10 Q: BCS Fabrication requests preapproval as prefabricated bridge manufacturer.
A: Certified Bridge Fabricator - Intermediate and Fracture Control Endorsement required. Not approved unless the certification is provided.
A2.11 Q: The spec SP-3 in the documents calls for the bridge to be weathering steel (section b.3) and also suggests that it will be galvanized (Section 3.L). Can you please clarify the material and the finish on this bridge?
A: Bridge to be weathered steel (Corten). Disregard the note in Section 3.L regarding drainage holes if it is hot-dip galvanized.
