About this file
This document is an Addendum No. 1 issued by the City of Long Beach Department of Financial Management for RFP No. RFP FM 22-175 concerning the procurement of fire pumpers. The addendum modifies the original proposal specifications and establishes that the proposal due date has been extended to February 16, 2023 by 11:00 AM. The document clarifies the City's flexibility regarding certain equipment specifications, confirming that this is a Request for Proposals process in which specifications serve as reference points for a complete build meeting the Long Beach Fire Department's needs rather than strict mandates.
The addendum addresses two specific equipment questions submitted by proposers. First, it confirms that alternative front suspension systems, specifically the Hendrickson SteerTek system proposed by KME, will be considered as acceptable alternatives to the originally specified independent front suspension system, despite that system being patented and proprietary to a single manufacturer. Second, the City confirms that Class 1 vacuum and pressure gauges will be accepted as alternatives to the Pierce-branded gauges specified in the original RFP. Both rulings clarify that all complete proposals will be evaluated according to the evaluation criteria stated in section 3.2 of the RFP. Proposers are required to acknowledge receipt of this addendum by signing and submitting it with their bid, with failure to do so potentially resulting in disqualification.

1. Q: The Long Beach specifications call for an independent front suspension with a design that is patented and proprietary to one manufacturer. KME would like the
City to consider a front axle/suspension system that is supplied by Hendrickson known as SteerTek. SteerTek is custom-tuned for each chassis, offers a ride more favorable than independent suspension, is much less costly to purchase and maintain, and all parts are not proprietary. Most fire apparatus manufacturers provide this system. Will SteerTek be considered and approved for this bid?
A: Yes. This is a Request for Proposals (RFP). The specifications in this RFP are for reference of a complete build that meets the need of the Long Beach Fire Department. All complete proposals will be accepted and reviewed based on the criteria stated in section 3.2 of the RFP.
2. Q: Pierce logo on vacuum and pressure gauges are included in the spec. Would the department consider Class 1 gauges, which were provided on previous units?
A: Yes. This is a Request for Proposals (RFP). The specifications in this RFP are for reference of a complete build that meets the need of the Long Beach Fire Department. All complete proposals will be accepted and reviewed based on the criteria stated in section 3.2 of the RFP.
