About this file
This is Addendum #1 to a construction contract issued by the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) for the Union Lake project on February 15, 2019. The addendum provides clarifications and specifications for a waterfront construction project involving retaining wall installation, dredging, vault toilet infrastructure, and landscape plantings. Key project elements include the use of segmental retaining walls (with Recon Retaining Walls approved as an equal), site dredging with contractor-determined means and methods, installation of a vault toilet structure to be concealed within four inches of the top, and planting of Arborvitae (20 plants) and Red Cedar (3 plants) with landscape edging. The contractor is responsible for obtaining all necessary permits except the MDEQ permit, which will be secured by the owner, with permitting fees covered by the contingency allowance. Plant maintenance is required for twelve full months of active growing seasons from the time of substantial completion, and digital copies of drawings will be provided to the successful bidder for site layout purposes.
The addendum specifies that all plant materials must be bid as detailed in specification section 329300, with biolog specifications including plant species and quantities outlined in section 329300, 2.8. Contractors may hire qualified biolog installers for vegetation work. All materials removed from the site are to be considered non-hazardous and non-contaminated unless otherwise specified. The contractor should refer to Sheet C5 of the re-issued plans for edging specifications, with landscape edging limited to the area surrounding the Arborvitae screen along the north property line and Red Cedar planting in the northeast corner of the property, as indicated by dashed lines on the plans.
