PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Naval Special Warfare Command
Vehicle Maintenance Virtual Data Access
1. BACKGROUND
Naval Special Warfare owns, operates, and maintains a global fleet of 1,600 commercial vehicles. Maintenance work is completed in maintenance shops located in Hawaii, Bahrain, Guam, California, Virginia, Arkansas, Nevada, and Mississippi.
Vehicles range in age from current manufacturing year to the 1990’s. NSW has been using web-based access to commercial vehicle maintenance and repair information and had excellent success obtaining necessary information to maintain equipment in a high state of readiness. Information needed includes updated maintenance data, diagnostic and troubleshooting guides, recall notices and Web based maintenance procedures for both automotive and heavy truck vehicles of all manufacturing years. Web access is used at each mechanic shop to determine how to perform specific tasks and identify the parts needed.
Having the proper service and repair information is vital to safe vehicle operations.
Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) have replaced their paperback service and repair manuals with compact disks and DVD’s. Utilizing a web-based system eliminates the need to store manuals, update data files and ensures the latest technical information is available to conduct trouble shooting points learned in the field by model and year. Mobile technicians can access the information through a phone if required when working in the field. By utilizing a web based automotive service and repair website there is no software to install; can be accessed from any computer or tablet with internet access and has no infrastructure costs.
