About this file

This document is an Above-the-Ceiling Work Permit that is required for any work that will open or penetrate an existing building structural element, such as a wall or floor, which is smoke-tight or fire-rated. The permit must be completed and approved prior to performing the work. It requires the work coordinator/supervisor to provide details on the planned work, including whether the openings or penetrations will be sealed using a UL-approved system. Once the work is complete, the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) or designated staff must inspect the area and confirm that all openings, penetrations, and joints have been properly sealed to prevent the escape of fire and smoke, and that all work has been completed in accordance with industry practice and applicable building fire code requirements.

The related federal contract opportunity is for a project to Abate Asbestos Renovation 2024, with Solicitation Number 36C24124B0054. The contract is being issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Integrated Service Network 1.
