Q&A
This document should answer possible questions regarding the scope of work being requested in solicitation ABL-23034.
Where is Little Port Walter, Alaska?
· Little Port Walter is located 110 miles south of Juneau, Alaska, near the southeastern tip of Baranof Island. The Little Port Walter (LWP) research station is isolated and only accessible by marine vessel or float plane.
· Little Port Walter is located in an estuarine environment adjacent to Chatham Strait near the open Gulf of Alaska. These facilities are used to conduct a variety of fish rearing studies, some of which can extend over a period of several years. Chinook salmon from three distinct genetic lines, chum salmon, pink salmon, and steelhead trout, are the principal species under study at LPW.
What type of freight needs to be transported between Sitka and Little Port Walter?
· Weekly mail and freight usually consist of items between 10 to 100lbs.
· Groceries are part of the weekly freight so vessel needs to plenty of refrigerator and freezer space for transportation.
· Large freight over 150lbs is usually coordinated in advance, but it could be up to 10,000lbs. Vessel needs to have a crane to onload and offload. Larger freight examples are forklift, 4-wheeler, large generator, large tanks, and much more.
