Description of Need Off-Network Computers
Corporate Communications
1.0 INTRODUCTION: DFAS Corporate Communications requires a procurement of three off-network computers, three large displays, and three external storage drives for the Tactical Communications Team. This team produces video, graphics, animation, and podcasts to support the DFAS executive leadership team’s communications for strategic initiatives and programs, events such as the Annual Business Refresh, and PDI Conference. Multimedia requests are numerous, and many projects take several months to complete. The agency blocks all cloud-based services, so off-line computers are essential for accessing design-related websites, resources and software used to create content. Corporate Communications currently has three off-network computers; however, the warranties have expired. The processors, graphics cards, and limited memory in these machines cannot keep up with software updates that Adobe Applications require. Limited computer power is an obstacle to meeting the high demand for multi-media content. Replacing the out-of-warranty computers with more powerful ones will eliminate workarounds, allow developers to perform at optimal levels, and expedite the delivery of products. Large monitors at a minimum of 38 inches are standard in the production industry for detailed work on video/animation projects. Lastly, external SSD’s (Solid State Drives) are a requirement when rendering/exporting large video productions to expedite video render times and backup essential project files. Maintaining copies of files are required by federal law.
