About this file

The provided document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a Sources Sought notice related to a federal contract opportunity. The SOW describes the requirement for the contractor to lead a 3-day tutorial at SLAC to guide new ATLAS members on ATLAS analysis procedures, covering topics such as MC generation, running grid jobs, data retrieval and analysis, and statistical analysis. The tutorial will use a search for second-generation leptoquarks as an example, and will include hands-on activities to teach students how to use ATLAS tools. The Related Federal Contract Opportunity is a Pre-Solicitation from the Department of Energy Office of Science, requesting information from prospective contractors on their capabilities to meet the requirements in the attached SOW.

Text version

ATC Statement of Work Contract #: NEW Work Scope Based on a successful US ATLAS software tutorial last year there is a need to lead a 3-day tutorial at SLAC to guide new ATLAS members through ATLAS analysis procedures from start to finish, providing a jump start for early career members to play a pivotal role in Run 3 ATLAS analysis.

Overview:

The workshop will follow a search for second generation leptoquarks that can be used to exemplify the high-level procedures required for in many ATLAS analyses: MC generation, running grid jobs, batch jobs on US ATLAS, retrieving data, analyzing the data, and performing statistical analysis on the data. The tutorial will be a specific implementation of ATLAS educational materials for the US ATLAS audience.

Format:

The tutorial will have brief background introductions followed by hands-on activities to learn how to practically use ATLAS tools in analysis. For example, the tutorial includes a description of statistical methods followed by a hands-on statistics example. The guiding philosophy will be to guide students through as many analysis steps as possible during the allotted time, but when a step becomes time consuming (such as running grid jobs for many days), the output will be given to the students once the previous step has been completed.
