About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details the construction requirements for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) Conventional Facilities Project Work Package No. 2 at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The project involves constructing multiple power supply and deionized water buildings (1001A, 1003A, 1007A, 1009A, 1011A) and potentially three additional buildings (1005T, 1010D, 1010E) as add-alternate options. Base work includes earthwork, electrical distribution, structural foundations, pre-engineered metal building systems, finish carpentry, fire suppression systems, heating and ventilation, power and lighting installations, mechanical process cooling tunnel penetrations, exterior improvements, and site utilities.
The project has a comprehensive construction schedule spanning 149 weeks, with key milestones including contract award, administrative documentation submission, notice to proceed, tunnel modifications, site preparation, building construction, and final completion. The General Contractor will be responsible for comprehensive project management, including safety protocols, environmental compliance, quality assurance, construction coordination, waste management, and commissioning. The project aims to support the EIC's scientific mission of studying particle interactions, with facilities designed to provide space for power supplies, controls, instrumentation, and rack-mounted equipment across approximately 150,000-175,000 square feet of new infrastructure.

1.3 Background
BSA intends to construct an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) that will be a particle accelerator that collides an electron beam with a beam of ions. It will produce comprehensive data on the internal structure of protons and nuclei to reveal unprecedented details of the arrangement and interactions of the quarks and gluons that make up the building blocks of nuclei. The EIC will be built to

SOW: Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) Conventional Facilities New York State Project Work Package No. 2 Revision: 00 leverage the existing Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and its infrastructure. Enhancements and additions to the infrastructure will be required to accommodate the planned new facilities.
The conventional facilities required for the EIC are projected to include fifteen (15) new support facilities around the existing approximate 4km circumference ring to provide space for power supplies, controls and instrumentation, networking, and other rack mounted equipment. Square footage is anticipated to be approximately 150,000 to 175,000; however, the final total square footage will be finalized during the development of the Critical Decision-2 Preliminary and/or Final Design.
The power distribution for the facilities required for the EIC is projected to include expansion of the existing 69kV transformer and switch yard, 13.8kV distribution system and existing switchgear building. The power distribution scope also includes design of the substations, switchgear and duct banks for each building and design of motor control centers and switchgear for EIC and building loads.
Mechanical cooling for the particle accelerator components includes chilled water systems, closed cooling water systems, process cooling tower systems and compressed air systems. These systems will include heat exchangers, cooling towers, pumps, chillers, air compressors, water treatment systems (such as deionizers, filtration, chemical treatment), and interconnecting piping.
Water distribution includes connection to the existing BNL water utility system and installation of main and branch services as required for the new EIC buildings.
