About this file

This document is a Pesticide Use Proposal (PUP) for the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge in Regions 3 and 4. It details the proposed use of the herbicide Garlon 4 Ultra to manage invasive plant species across 2,740 acres of the refuge. The PUP outlines the integrated pest management methods, location details, pesticide application information, and potential impacts to non-target species, including federally listed threatened and endangered species. The PUP has been approved for the 2024 calendar year. The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation for vegetation management services at the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin, which may be relevant to the proposed pesticide application activities outlined in the PUP.

View Pesticide Application Information: Proposed pesticide applications in a PUP may not reflect actual on-the-ground pesticides applications. Specifically, PUPs may include dierent application scenarios (e.g. spray equipment and rate combinations) to capture the breadth of potential application options. Note that actual pesticide applications must be compliant with the pesticide labels, and the complete Usage Report will contain actual usage information association with the PUP.

Seed Treatment Calculations Information (Pounds or Gallons of Pesticide per Seed) X (number seeds planted /acre) = Pounds or Gallons of Pesticide/Acre (Pounds or Gallons of Pesticide/Acre) X (Acres Treated) = Total Pounds or Gallons Pesticide

Water quality used to mix pesticides in a spray tank can aect pesticide eicacy.

Example: glyphosate-based herbicides perform best when mixed with water at pH 3.5 to 5.
