About this file

This document is a map of the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge in Wisconsin, detailing the locations of invasive species treatment and oak savanna restoration activities planned for Fiscal Year 2024.

The map shows the refuge boundary, gravel roads, and the refuge headquarters. It indicates areas where the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service will contract for foliar and basal bark chemical treatments to control invasive woody species such as black locust, Siberian elm, common buckthorn, bush honeysuckle, Siberian peashrub, black cherry, hill's oak grubs, and northern catalpa. The treatments will focus on forest-edge patches adjacent to previous seasons' treatments and along the auto-tour loop, as well as scattered woody species in open prairie areas. Care must be taken to avoid damage to young bur oak and mature trees. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 140FS224Q0155, titled "WI-TREMPEALEAU NWR-BLF AND BBT", issued by the Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service.

Chemically control black locust, siberian elm, common buckthorn, bush honeysuckle, siberian peashrub, black cherry, hill's oak grubs, northern catalpa, and any other woody invasive species within the refuge's Prairie Oak Savanna Management Unit using foliar and basal bark application tactics during the growing season of 2024. Contract Foliar control will focus on forest-edge patches adjacent to previous seasons treatments and along the autotour loop. Contract basal bark treatments will focus on black locust too tall for foilar treatments and less than 7'' DBH, as well as woody species scattered in the open prairie less than 5'' DBH. Care must be taken to avoid any damage to young bur oak and mature trees of any species.
