1. BACKGROUND:
The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area (BISO), located along the eastern border of Kentucky and Tennessee, encompasses an expansive area of approximately 125,000 acres. Established by Congress on March 7, 1974, BISO is committed to preserving its rich natural and cultural heritage for present and future generations. The park is known for its diverse landscapes, including the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and its tributaries, which contribute significantly to both the ecological integrity of the region and recreational opportunities for visitors.
In line with BISO's commitment to sustainability and efficient asset management, a timely cyclic roofing project is planned for the Tennessee Log Dorm. This initiative involves removing the current asphalt shingles and associated roofing components, replacing them with sustainable materials that offer enhanced longevity and reduced maintenance needs. The introduction of a
30-year architectural shingle will extend the roof's life expectancy, while an upgraded venting system is designed to improve air circulation, and lower utility costs.
