About this file
This is a DD Form 2169 Special Packaging Instruction document dated January 5, 2026, for a diesel engine (part number 1D81C-323, CAGE 61080, National Stock Number 2815-01-536-9262).
The document provides comprehensive packaging and preservation requirements for the diesel engine. Preservation procedures include filling the dipstick opening with one gallon of MIL-PRF-21260 Type PE-10 preservative, manually turning the crank 10-15 times using a wrenching breaker bar, spraying 12-15 ml of preservative into the intake port, fogging 2 ml of preservative on the exposed shaft side, applying MIL-PRF-16173 Grade 4 preservative to all bare ferrous surfaces, and draining the preservative from the engine before final sealing. The unit pack specifications are 387.0 pounds, 14.009 cubic feet, and dimensions of 29.0 x 26.5 x 31.5 inches. Packaging consists of paper wrap (MIL-PRF-121 Type II), foam cushioning (A-A-59135 Class 1), a floating bag (MIL-DTL-6060E), and a corrugated container (ASTM-D6880 Class 2). Blocking and bracing materials conform to ASTM-D6199 Class 3, with specific wood dimensions detailed in Table 1. The container must be secured with 5/16" x 3" lag screws and marked with warnings to remove lag screws for opening. Quality assurance inspection shall follow MIL-STD-2073-1 and TM 38-701. Any deviations from the preservation procedure require pre-approval from TACOM and the engine manufacturer.
