About this file

This is a Data Item Description (DID) document that specifies the format, content, and requirements for delivering a Technical Data Package (TDP) as a federal contract deliverable.

A TDP is an authoritative technical description of an item that provides clear, complete, and accurate information adequate for acquisition, production, inspection, engineering, and logistics purposes. The TDP supports the entire lifecycle of an item by defining its design, configuration, performance requirements, and procedures necessary for proper interface and effective performance. The document, numbered DI-SESS-80776B with approval date August 1, 2019, supersedes the previous version DI-SESS-80776A. TDP deliverables shall be formatted according to either the Government's format as specified on the TDP Option Selection Worksheet or the contractor's format, as specified in the contract.

The TDP content requirements encompass one or more of ten distinct elements: conceptual engineering design data, developmental engineering design data and associated lists, product engineering design data and associated lists, commercial engineering design data and associated lists, Special Inspection Equipment (SIE) engineering design data, Special Tooling (ST) engineering design data, specifications, software documentation, Special Packaging Instructions (SPI) engineering design data, and Quality Assurance Provisions (QAPs). Product engineering design data must document unique processes, performance ratings, dimensional and tolerance data, critical manufacturing processes and assembly sequences, toleranced input and output characteristics, diagrams, mechanical and electrical connections, physical characteristics, material identification details, inspection and test criteria, equipment calibration requirements, quality assurance requirements, hardware marking requirements, certifications and environmental/operational/functional testing requirements, vendor substantiation data, software programming requirements, and special consideration items and processes. All referenced standards and documents shall be those specified in the individual contract.
