SECTION 010000 – GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and other Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2

SUMMARY

A. This Section includes general requirements that are to apply to all Work throughout the Project. Requirements included in this Section are to apply to all other specification Sections.

B. Refer to Construction Contract for other requirements by the General Contractor, Subcontractors, suppliers, etc.

1.3

DEFINITIONS

A. General: Basic Contract definitions are included in the Conditions of the Contract.

B. "Approved": When used to convey COR’s or CO's action on Contractor's submittals, applications, and requests, "approved" is limited to COR’s and CO’s duties and responsibilities as stated in the Conditions of the Contract.

C. “Center of...”: Indicates a specific single point at the exact center of the tile, panel, or other surface indicated.

D. “Contractor”: The General Contractor unless otherwise stated.

E. "Directed": A command or instruction by COR or CO. Other terms including "requested," "authorized," "selected," "approved," "required," and "permitted" have the same meaning as "directed."

F. "Furnish": Supply and deliver to Project site, ready for unloading, unpacking, assembly, installation, and similar operations.

G. "Indicated": Requirements expressed by graphic representations or in written form on

Drawings, in Specifications, and in other Contract Documents. Other terms including "shown," "noted," "scheduled," and "specified" have the same meaning as "indicated."

H. "Install": Operations at Project site including unloading, temporarily storing, unpacking, assembling, erecting, placing, anchoring, applying, working to dimension, finishing, curing, protecting, cleaning, and similar operations.

I. “Project Manager”: The Contractor’s project manager.

J. “Project Representative”: The BLM’s project representatives (COR and CO).

K. "Project Site": Space available for performing construction activities. The extent of Project site is shown on Drawings (Plans) and may or may not be identical with the description of the land on which Project is to be built.

L. "Provide": Furnish and install, complete and ready for the intended use.

M. "Regulations": Laws, ordinances, statutes, and lawful orders issued by authorities having jurisdiction, and rules, conventions, and agreements within the construction industry that control performance of the Work.

N. “Related Sections”: Related Sections articles are included herein as a courtesy to assist in the locating of items in the specifications that the reader might expect to find in the Section but that are specified elsewhere. The list of sections may or may not be complete.

‘Related Sections’ articles do not relieve the Contractor of the contractual obligation to perform to all the Contract Documents or to coordinate who does what amongst the team of subcontractors.

1.4 SITE INSPECTION

A. Examine the premises and site and compare them with the SOW, drawings and specifications.

B. Become familiar with existing conditions such as obstructive areas, excavating or filling, and any problems related to construction. No allowances will subsequently be made by reason of failure to examine the site.

1.5 SCOPE OF THE WORK

A. Unless otherwise provided, all materials, labor, equipment, tools, transportation, and utilities necessary for the successful completion of the Project shall be provided at the expense of the Contractor.

B. Requirements of the Work are contained in the Contract Documents, and include cross-references herein to published information, which is not necessarily bound therewith.

C. Provide, as part of the Bid and without additional charge, all incidental items required for completion of the Work, even if not specifically indicated.

1. Install all Work so that its several component parts function together as a complete and workable system, and with all equipment properly adjusted and in working order.

D. Conform to highest quality standards for materials and workmanship to execute Work that is indicated or specified and that is necessary to fully satisfy the Contract Document requirements for a complete, finished, acceptable installation regardless of whether indicated or specified or not.

E. Responsibilities of the Contractor includes the responsibility to verify all field measurements of actual building conditions so that all Work fits properly in the locations indicated and specified. Protect existing structures, improvements, trees, and other items from physical damage, unless identified to be removed.

F. Any existing surfaces, furniture or equipment that are damaged by the Contractor are to be restored to their original condition, or better, to the satisfaction of the BLM.

G. Contractor is to restore any roads, utilities, walks, curbs, gutters or other existing conditions that are used for construction and are damaged, to the same condition as they existed prior to commencement of construction. Where existing conditions are damaged, they shall be replaced by new Work to match existing adjacent Work, or repaired, if acceptable to Project Representative, at no cost to BLM.

1.6 WORKERS

A. The Contractor is to enforce strict discipline and good order among his/her employees at all times and shall not employ on the Project any unfit person or anyone not skilled in the Work assigned to him/her.

B. Consumption of alcohol, smoking or any other controlled, non-medically prescribed substance will not be allowed on the Project.

C. Contractor shall rectify behavior unacceptable to the BLM or BLM’s Project Representative by strict enforcement of discipline. BLM reserves the right to request dismissal of individual workers for failure to comply with standards of behavior communicated to the Contractor.

1.7 MANUFACTURER’S DIRECTIONS

A. Manufactured articles, materials, or equipment shall be applied, installed, connected, erected, used, cleaned, and conditioned in accordance with the Manufacturer’s printed directions unless otherwise indicated in the Contract Documents.

1.8 FASTENERS

A. Unless noted otherwise, the trade requiring the fastening of its Work to any substrate or support is responsible for provision and installation of requisite fasteners.

1.9 PENETRATIONS

A. The sealing of all penetrations in fire-rated, acoustically-rated or structural partitions and separations is the responsibility of the trade making or requiring the penetration.

1.4 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS

A. The Work of the Project is defined by the Contract Documents and consists of the following:

Project Description:

The scope of this project involves removing the current asphalt shingles, moisture barrier underlayment, all flashing from around any roof protrusions or vertical surfaces, all rubber stack-boots from around plumbing vents, and associated roofing components, replacing them with 30-Year shingle roofing materials.

1.5 ACCESS TO SITE

A. General: Contractor shall have full use of Project site for construction operations during construction period. Contractor's use of Project site is limited only by BLM's right to perform work or to retain other contractors on portions of Project when applicable.

B. Use of Site: Limit use of Project site to work only in areas shown on the contract documents. Do not disturb portions of the site beyond areas in which the Work is indicated unless approved in writing prior to work.

1.6 COORDINATION WITH BLM OFFICE EMPOYEES (When applicable)

A. BLM Limited Occupancy of Completed Areas of Construction: B L M reserves the right to occupy completed portions of the Work, prior to Substantial Completion of the Work, provided such occupancy does not interfere with completion of the Work. Such limited occupancy shall not constitute acceptance of the total Work.

1. COR will prepare a Certificate of Substantial Completion for each specific portion of the Work to be occupied prior to BLM acceptance of the completed Work.

2. On occupancy, BLM will assume responsibility for maintenance and custodial service for occupied portions of Work.

1.7 SPECIFICATION AND DRAWING CONVENTIONS

A. Specification Content: The Specifications use certain conventions for the style of language and the intended meaning of certain terms, words, and phrases when used in particular situations. These conventions are as follows:

1. Imperative mood and streamlined language are generally used in the

Specifications. The words "shall," "shall be," or "shall comply with," depending on the context, are implied where a colon (:) is used within a sentence or phrase.

2. Specification requirements are to be performed by Contractor unless specifically stated otherwise.

B. Division 01 General Requirements: Requirements of Sections in Division 01 apply to the Work of all Sections in the Specifications.

C. Drawing Coordination: Requirements for materials and products identified on the Drawings are described in detail in the Specifications. One or more of the following are used on the Drawings to identify materials and products:

1. Terminology: Materials and products are identified by the typical generic terms used in the individual Specifications Sections.

SECTION 013300 - SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and other Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2

SUMMARY

A. Section Includes:

1. Submittal schedule requirements.

2. Administrative and procedural requirements for submittals.

B. Related Requirements:

1. Section 013100 "Project Management and Coordination" for submitting coordination drawings and subcontract list and for requirements for web-based Project software.

2. Section 013200 "Construction Progress Documentation" for submitting schedules and reports, including Contractor's construction schedule.

1.3

DEFINITIONS

A. Action Submittals: Written and graphic information and physical samples that require

COR's responsive action. Action submittals are those submittals indicated in individual Specification Sections as "action submittals."

B. Informational Submittals: Written and graphic information and physical samples that do not require COR's responsive action. Submittals may be rejected for not complying with requirements. Informational submittals are those submittals indicated in individual Specification Sections as "informational submittals."

1.4

SUBMITTAL SCHEDULE

A. Submittal Schedule: Submit, as an action submittal, a list of submittals, arranged in chronological order by dates required by construction schedule. Include time required for review, ordering, manufacturing, fabrication, and delivery when establishing dates.

Include additional time required for making corrections or revisions to submittals noted by COR and additional time for handling and reviewing submittals required by those corrections.

1. Coordinate submittal schedule with list of subcontracts, the schedule of values, and Contractor's construction schedule.

2. Initial Submittal: Submit concurrently with startup construction schedule. Include submittals required during the first 60 days of construction. List those submittals required to maintain orderly progress of the Work and those required early because of long lead time for manufacture or fabrication.

3. Final Submittal: Submit concurrently with the first complete submittal of Contractor's construction schedule.

a. Submit revised submittal schedule to reflect changes in current status and timing for submittals.

4. Format: Arrange the following information in a tabular format:

a. Scheduled date for first submittal.

b. Specification Section number and title.

c. Submittal Category: Action; informational.

d. Name of subcontractor.

e. Description of the Work covered.

f. Scheduled date for COR's final release or approval.

g. Scheduled dates for purchasing.

h. Scheduled dates for installation.

i. Activity or event number.

1.5 SUBMITTAL FORMATS

A. Submittal Information: Include the following information in each submittal:

1. Project name.

2. Date.

3. Name of COR.

4. Name of Contractor.

5. Name of firm or entity that prepared submittal.

6. Names of subcontractor, manufacturer, and supplier.

7. Unique submittal number, including revision identifier. Include Specification Section number with sequential alphanumeric identifier, and alphanumeric suffix for resubmittals.

8. Category and type of submittal.

9. Submittal purpose and description.

10. Number and title of Specification Section, with paragraph number and generic name for each of multiple items.

11. Drawing number and detail references, as appropriate.

12. Indication of full submittal.

13. Location(s) where product is to be installed, as appropriate.

14. Other necessary identification.

15. Remarks.

16. Signature of transmitter.

B. Options: Identify options requiring selection by COR.

C. Deviations and Additional Information: On each submittal, clearly indicate deviations from requirements in the Contract Documents, including minor variations and limitations;

include relevant additional information and revisions, other than those requested by COR on previous submittals. Indicate by highlighting on each submittal or noting on attached separate sheet.

D. PDF Submittals: Prepare submittals as PDF package, incorporating complete information into each PDF file. Name PDF file with submittal number.

1.6 SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES

A. Prepare and submit submittals required by individual Specification Sections. Types of submittals are indicated in individual Specification Sections.

1. Email: Prepare submittals as PDF package and transmit to COR by sending via email. Include PDF transmittal form. Include information in email subject line as requested by COR.

a. COR will return annotated file. Annotate and retain one copy of file as a digital Project Record Document file.

B. Coordination: Coordinate preparation and processing of submittals with performance of construction activities.

1. Coordinate each submittal with fabrication, purchasing, testing, delivery, other submittals, and related activities that require sequential activity.

2. Submit all submittal items required for each Specification Section concurrently unless partial submittals for portions of the Work are indicated on approved submittal schedule.

3. Submit action submittals and informational submittals required by the same Specification Section as separate packages under separate transmittals.

4. Coordinate transmittal of submittals for related parts of the Work specified in different Sections so processing will not be delayed because of need to review submittals concurrently for coordination.

a. COR reserves the right to withhold action on a submittal requiring coordination with other submittals until related submittals are received.

C. Processing Time: Allow time for submittal review, including time for resubmittals, as follows.

Time for review shall commence on COR's receipt of submittal. No extension of the Contract Time will be authorized because of failure to transmit submittals enough in advance of the Work to permit processing, including resubmittals.

1. Initial Review: Allow 15 days for initial review of each submittal. Allow additional time if coordination with subsequent submittals is required. COR will advise Contractor when a submittal being processed must be delayed for coordination.

2. Intermediate Review: If intermediate submittal is necessary, process it in same manner as initial submittal.

3. Resubmittal Review: Allow 15 days for review of each resubmittal.

4. Sequential Review: Where sequential review of submittals by COR's other parties is indicated, allow 21 days for initial review of each submittal.

5. Concurrent Consultant Review: Where the Contract Documents indicate that submittals may be transmitted simultaneously to COR and to others, allow 15 days for review of each submittal. Submittal will be returned to COR before being returned to Contractor.

D. Resubmittals: Make resubmittals in same form and number of copies as initial submittal.

1. Note date and content of previous submittal.

2. Note date and content of revision in label or title block and clearly indicate extent of revision.

3. Resubmit submittals until they are marked with approval notation from COR's action stamp.

E. Distribution: Furnish copies of final submittals to manufacturers, subcontractors, suppliers, fabricators, installers, authorities having jurisdiction, and others as necessary for performance of construction activities. Show distribution on transmittal forms.

F. Use for Construction: Retain complete copies of submittals on Project site. Use only final action submittals that are marked with approval notation from COR's action stamp.

1.7 SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Product Data: Collect information into a single submittal for each element of construction and type of product or equipment.

1. If information must be specially prepared for submittal because standard published data are unsuitable for use, submit as Shop Drawings, not as Product Data.

2. Mark each copy of each submittal to show which products and options are applicable.

3. Include the following information, as applicable:

a. Manufacturer's catalog cuts.

b. Manufacturer's product specifications.

c. Statement of compliance with specified referenced standards.

d. Testing by recognized testing agency.

e. Application of testing agency labels and seals.

f. Notation of coordination requirements.

g. Availability and delivery time information.

4. For equipment, include the following in addition to the above, as applicable:

a. Wiring diagrams that show factory-installed wiring.

b. Printed performance curves.

c. Clearances required to other construction, if not indicated on accompanying Shop Drawings.

5. Submit Product Data before Shop Drawings, and before or concurrent with Samples.

B. Shop Drawings: Prepare Project-specific information, drawn accurately to scale. Do not base Shop Drawings on reproductions of the Contract Documents or standard printed data unless submittal based on COR's digital data drawing files is otherwise permitted.

1. Preparation: Fully illustrate requirements in the Contract Documents. Include the following information, as applicable:

a. Identification of products.

b. Schedules.

c. Compliance with specified standards.

d. Notation of coordination requirements.

e. Notation of dimensions established by field measurement.

f. Relationship and attachment to adjoining construction clearly indicated.

g. Seal and signature of professional engineer if specified.

C. Samples (when requested or required): Submit Samples for review of kind, color, pattern, and texture for a check of these characteristics with other materials.

1. Transmit Samples that contain multiple, related components such as accessories together in one submittal package.

2. Identification: Permanently attach label on unexposed side of Samples that includes the following:

a. Project name and submittal number.

b. Generic description of Sample.

c. Product name and name of manufacturer.

d. Sample source.

e. Number and title of applicable Specification Section.

f. Specification paragraph number and generic name of each item.

3. Email Transmittal: Provide PDF transmittal. Include digital image file illustrating

Sample characteristics, and identification information for record.

4. Paper Transmittal: Include paper transmittal including complete submittal information indicated.

5. Disposition: Maintain sets of approved Samples at Project site, available for quality-control comparisons throughout the course of construction activity. Sample sets may be used to determine final acceptance of construction associated with each set.

a. Samples that may be incorporated into the Work are indicated in individual

Specification Sections. Such Samples must be in an undamaged condition at time of use.

b. Samples not incorporated into the Work, or otherwise designated as BLM's property, are the property of Contractor.

6. Samples for Verification: Submit full-size units or Samples of size indicated, prepared from same material to be used for the Work, cured and finished in

manner specified, and physically identical with material or product proposed for use, and that show full range of color and texture variations expected. Samples include, but are not limited to, the following: partial sections of manufactured or fabricated components; small cuts or containers of materials; complete units of repetitively used materials; swatches showing color, texture, and pattern; color range sets; and components used for independent testing and inspection.

a. Number of Samples: Submit three sets of Samples. COR will retain two Sample sets; remainder will be returned. Mark up and retain one returned Sample set as a project record Sample.

1) Submit a single Sample where assembly details, workmanship, fabrication techniques, connections, operation, and other similar characteristics are to be demonstrated.

2) If variation in color, pattern, texture, or other characteristic is inherent in material or product represented by a Sample, submit at least three sets of paired units that show approximate limits of variations.

D. Product Schedule (when requested or required): As required in individual Specification

Sections, prepare a written summary indicating types of products required for the Work and their intended location. Include the following information in tabular form:

1. Type of product. Include unique identifier for each product indicated in the

Contract Documents or assigned by Contractor if none is indicated.

2. Manufacturer and product name, and model number if applicable.

E. Qualification Data: Prepare written information that demonstrates capabilities and experience of firm or person. Include lists of completed projects with project names and addresses, contact information of architects and owners, and other information specified.

F. Certificates:

1. Certificates and Certifications Submittals: Submit a statement that includes signature of entity responsible for preparing certification. Certificates and certifications shall be signed by an officer or other individual authorized to sign documents on behalf of that entity. Provide a notarized signature where indicated.

2. Installer Certificates: Submit written statements on manufacturer's letterhead certifying that Installer complies with requirements in the Contract Documents and, where required, is authorized by manufacturer for this specific Project.

3. Product Certificates: Submit written statements on manufacturer's letterhead certifying that product complies with requirements in the Contract Documents.

4. Welding Certificates: Prepare written certification that welding procedures and personnel comply with requirements in the Contract Documents.

Submit record of Welding Procedure Specification and Procedure Qualification Record on AWS forms. Include names of firms and personnel certified.

G. Test and Research Reports (when requested or required):

1. Compatibility Test Reports: Submit reports written by a qualified testing agency, on testing agency's standard form, indicating and interpreting results of compatibility tests performed before installation of product. Include written recommendations for primers and substrate preparation needed for adhesion.

2. Field Test Reports: Submit written reports indicating and interpreting results of field tests performed either during installation of product or after product is installed in its final location, for compliance with requirements in the Contract Documents.

3. Material Test Reports: Submit reports written by a qualified testing agency, on testing agency's standard form, indicating and interpreting test results of material for compliance with requirements in the Contract Documents.

4. Preconstruction Test Reports: Submit reports written by a qualified testing agency, on testing agency's standard form, indicating and interpreting results of tests performed before installation of product, for compliance with performance requirements in the Contract Documents.

5. Product Test Reports: Submit written reports indicating that current product produced by manufacturer complies with requirements in the Contract Documents. Base reports on evaluation of tests performed by manufacturer and witnessed by a qualified testing agency, or on comprehensive tests performed by a qualified testing agency.

6. Research Reports: Submit written evidence, from a model code organization acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, that product complies with building code in effect for Project. Include the following information:

a. Name of evaluation organization.

b. Date of evaluation.

c. Time period when report is in effect.

d. Product and manufacturers' names.

e. Description of product.

f. Test procedures and results.

g. Limitations of use.

1.8 DELEGATED-DESIGN SERVICES (WHEN REQUESTED OR REQUIRED)

A. Performance and Design Criteria: Where professional design services or certifications by a design professional are specifically required of Contractor by the Contract Documents, provide products and systems complying with specific performance and design criteria indicated.

1. If criteria indicated are insufficient to perform services or certification required, submit a written request for additional information to Architect.

B. Delegated-Design Services Certification: In addition to Shop Drawings, Product Data, and other required submittals, submit digitally signed PDF file, paper copies of certificate, signed and sealed by the responsible design professional, for each product and system specifically assigned to Contractor to be designed or certified by a design professional.

1. Indicate that products and systems comply with performance and design criteria in the Contract Documents. Include list of codes, loads, and other factors used in performing these services.

2. Prepare delegated-design drawings in the following format: Same digital data software program, version, and operating system as original Drawings.

1.9 CONTRACTOR'S REVIEW

A. Action Submittals and Informational Submittals: Review each submittal and check for coordination with other Work of the Contract and for compliance with the Contract Documents. Note corrections and field dimensions. Mark with approval stamp before submitting to Architect.

B. Contractor's Approval: Indicate Contractor's approval for each submittal with a uniform approval stamp. Include name of reviewer, date of Contractor's approval, and statement certifying that submittal has been reviewed, checked, and approved for compliance with the Contract Documents.

1.10 COR'S REVIEW

A. Action Submittals: COR will review each submittal, indicate corrections or revisions required.

2. Paper Submittals: COR will stamp each submittal with an action stamp and will mark stamp appropriately to indicate action.

B. Informational Submittals: COR will review each submittal and will not return it or will return it if it does not comply with requirements. COR will forward each submittal to appropriate party.

C. Partial submittals prepared for a portion of the Work will be reviewed when use of partial submittals has received prior approval from COR.

D. Incomplete submittals are unacceptable, will be considered nonresponsive, and will be returned for resubmittal without review.

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.3 DEFINITIONS

A. Roofing Terminology: Refer to ASTM D 1079 and glossary of NRCA’s “The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual” for definitions of terms related to roofing work in this Section.

1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Installer’s Qualifications with Roofing System Manufacturer.

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Source Limitations: Obtain ridge cap shingles and felt underlayment through one source from a single asphalt shingle manufacturer.

B. Installer’s Qualification: The roofing installer shall be approved and authorized by Roofing System Manufacturer to install manufacturer’s product and to obtain Roofing Manufacturer’s roofing system warranty covering both workmanship and materials.

C. Inspections:

1. The new asphalt roof system shall be inspected at least twice during construction by representatives of the contractor’s “Quality Assurance Program”. These inspections shall occur at least once during installation and once at completion.

Written reports (Daily Diaries) for each inspection shall be submitted to the Contracting Officer. The Contractor shall provide a 7-day advance notice to the Contracting Officer to allow for their attendance at the inspections.

D. Exterior Fire-Test Exposure: Class A; ASTM E 108 or UL 790, for application and roof slopes indicated. Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: Provide asphalt shingle and related roofing materials with the fire-test-response characteristics indicated, as determined by testing identical products per test method below by UL or another test-ing and inspecting agency acceptable to the CO. Identify materials with appropriate markings of applicable testing and inspecting agency.

1. Exterior Fire-Test Exposure: Class A; ASTM E 108 or UL 790, for application and roof slopes indicated.

1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Store roofing materials in a dry, well-ventilated, weathertight location according to as-phalt shingle manufacturer’s written instructions. Store underlayment rolls on end on pallets or other raised surfaces. Do not double-stack rolls.

1. Handle, store, and place roofing materials in a manner to avoid significant or permanent damage to roof deck or structural supporting members.

B. Protect unused underlayment from weather, sunlight, and moisture when left overnight or when roofing work is not in progress.

1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Weather Limitations: Proceed with installation only when existing and forecasted weather conditions permit asphalt shingle roofing to be performed according to manu-facturers’ written instructions and warranty requirements.

1.9 WARRANTIES

A. Manufacturer’s “No Dollar Limit” (NDL) or equivalent roofing system warranty cov-ering workmanship and materials required for the new asphalt shingle roofing system shall be for a minimum of 30 years. Manufacturers’ system warranties shall include the following information:

2. Date of Substantial Completion (warranty commencement date)

4. Description of Warranty Services

B. Warranty Periods:

1. Asphalt Shingles Material and Workmanship:

a. Periods:

1) Years 1-20: 100% coverage.

2) Years 21-50: 60% reduced by 2% each year thereafter.

b. Wind-Speed: Asphalt shingles will resist blow-off or damage caused by wind speeds up to 130 mph for 15 years from date of Substantial Comple-tion.

1.10 EXTRA MATERIALS

A. Furnish extra materials described below that match products installed, are packaged with protective covering for storage, and are identified with labels describing contents.

1. Asphalt Shingles: 50 sq. ft. of each type, in unbroken bundles.

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

A. In other Part 2 articles where titles below introduce lists, the following requirements apply to product selection:

2.3 UNDERLAYMENT MATERIALS

A. Felts: Meeting ASTM D 4869, ASTM D146, ASTM D1922, ASTM D228, and ASTM F1087, asphalt-saturated organic felts, fiberglass reinforced. Must be approved by roofing manufacturer for inclusion in system warranty. Owens Corning Fiberglas Reinforced Felt or equal.

B. Self-Sealing Ice and Water Barrier: Polyethylene Faced: minimum of 40-mil- (1.0-mm-) thick, 3-foot wide, flexible, slip-resisting, polyethylene-film-reinforced top sur-face laminated to SBS-modified asphalt adhesive, with release paper backing; cold applied. Seals around roofing fasteners, re-roofable, and lays flat after applied. Ex-tended exposure time of 30 days. Must be approved by roofing manufacturer for in-clusion in system warranty.

1. Codes meeting: ASTM D1970, ASTM D1984, ASTM D4037.

2. Products: Owens Corning Weatherlock Flex, or equal.

2.4 ACCESSORIES

A. Asphalt Roofing Cement: ASTM D 4586, Type II, asbestos free.

B. Roofing Nails: ASTM F 1667; aluminum, stainless-steel, copper, or hot-dip galva-nized steel wire shingle nails, minimum 0.120-inch- (3-mm-) diameter, smooth shank, sharp-pointed, with a minimum 3/8-inch- (9.5-mm-) diameter flat head and of suffi-cient length to penetrate 3/4 inch (19 mm) into solid wood decking or extend at least 1/8 inch (3 mm) through OSB or plywood sheathing.

1. Where nails are in contact with metal flashing, use nails made from same metal as flashing.

C. Felt Underlayment Nails: Aluminum, stainless-steel, or hot-dip galvanized steel wire with low profile capped heads or disc caps, 1-inch (25-mm) minimum diameter.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine substrate, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerance and other conditions affecting performance of work.

1. Examine roof sheathing to verify that sheathing joints are supported by framing and blocking or metal clips and that installation is within flatness tolerances.

2. Verify that substrate is sound, dry, smooth clean, sloped for drainage, and com-pletely anchored; and that provision has been made for flashing and penetrations through asphalt shingles.

B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 UNDERLAYMENT INSTALLATION

A. Single-Layer Felt Underlayment: Install single layer of felt underlayment on roof deck perpendicular to roof slope in parallel courses. Felt to be laid smooth, free of wrinkles and buckling. Lap sides a minimum of 2 inches (50 mm) over underlying course. Lap ends a minimum of 4 inches (100 mm). Stagger end laps between suc-ceeding courses at least 72 inches (1830 mm). Fasten with felt underlayment nails.

3.3 ASPHALT SHINGLE INSTALLATION

A. Install asphalt shingles according to manufacturer's written instructions, recommenda-tions in ARMA's "Residential Asphalt Roofing Manual," and asphalt shingle recom-mendations in NRCA's "The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual."

B. Install starter strip along lowest roof edge, consisting of an asphalt shingle strip at least 7 inches (175 mm) wide with self-sealing strip face up at roof edge.

1. Extend asphalt shingles 1/2 inch (13 mm) over fascia at eaves.

C. Install first and remaining courses of asphalt shingles stair stepping diagonally across roof deck with manufacturer's offset pattern at succeeding courses, maintaining uni-form exposure.

D. Install first and remaining courses of asphalt shingles stair stepping diagonally across roof deck with manufacturer’s recommended offset pattern at succeeding courses, maintaining uniform exposure.

E. Fasten asphalt shingle strips with a minimum of six roofing nails located according to manufacturer’s written instructions.

1. Where roof slope exceeds 20:12, seal asphalt shingles with asphalt roofing ce-ment spots after fastening with additional roofing nails.

2. Where roof slope is less than 4:12, seal asphalt shingles with asphalt roofing cement spots.

3. When ambient temperature during installation is below 50 deg F (10 deg C), seal

F. Ridge Shingles: Maintain same exposure of ridge shingles as roofing shingle expo-sure. Lap cap shingles at ridges to shed water away from direction of prevailing winds. Fasten with roofing nails of sufficient length to penetrate sheathing.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Fabricator Qualifications: Employs skilled workers who custom fabricate sheet metal flashing and trim similar to that required for this Project and whose products have a record of successful in-service performance.

1. For copings and roof edge flashings that are SPRI ES-1 tested, shop shall be listed as able to fabricate required details as tested and approved.

1.6 WARRANTY

A. Special Warranty on Finishes: Manufacturer agrees to repair finish or replace sheet metal flashing and trim that shows evidence of deterioration of factory-applied finishes within specified warranty period.

1. Finish Warranty Period: 30 years from date of Substantial Completion.

2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. General: Sheet metal flashing and trim assemblies shall withstand wind loads, structural movement, thermally induced movement, and exposure to weather without failure due to defective manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction.

Completed sheet metal flashing and trim shall not rattle, leak, or loosen, and shall remain watertight.

B. Sheet Metal Standard for Flashing and Trim: Comply with NRCA's "The NRCA Roofing Manual" and SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" requirements for dimensions and profiles shown unless more stringent requirements are indicated.

C. Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes.

1. Temperature Change: 120 deg F (67 deg C), ambient; 180 deg F (100 deg C), material surfaces.

2.2 SHEET METALS

A. General: Protect mechanical and other finishes on exposed surfaces from damage by applying strippable, temporary protective film before shipping.

B. Aluminum Sheet: ASTM B 209 (ASTM B 209M), alloy as standard with manufacturer for finish required, with temper as required to suit forming operations and performance

required.

1. Exposed Coil-Coated Finish:

a. Two-Coat Fluoropolymer: AAMA 620. Fluoropolymer finish containing not less than 70 percent PVDF resin by weight in color coat. Prepare, pretreat, and apply coating to exposed metal surfaces to comply with coating and resin manufacturers' written instructions.

2. Colors: As selected by CO from Manufacturer’s full range.

C. Stainless-Steel Sheet: ASTM A 240/A 240M, Type 304, dead soft, fully annealed; 2D (dull, cold rolled) finish.

D. Metallic-Coated Steel Sheet: Provide zinc-coated (galvanized) steel sheet according to ASTM A 653/A 653M, G90 (Z275) coating designation; prepainted by coil-coating process to comply with ASTM A 755/A 755M.

1. Exposed Coil-Coated Finish:

a. Two-Coat Fluoropolymer: AAMA 621. Fluoropolymer finish containing not less than 70 percent PVDF resin by weight in color coat. Prepare, pretreat, and apply coating to exposed metal surfaces to comply with coating and resin manufacturers' written instructions.

2. Colors: As selected by CO from Manufacturer’s full range.

2.3 UNDERLAYMENT MATERIALS

A. Felt: ASTM D 226/D 226M, Type II (No. 30), asphalt-saturated organic felt;

nonperforated.

B. Self-Adhering, High-Temperature Sheet: Minimum 30 mils (0.76 mm) thick, consisting of a slip-resistant polyethylene- or polypropylene-film top surface laminated to a layer of butyl- or SBS-modified asphalt adhesive, with release-paper backing; specifically designed to withstand high metal temperatures beneath metal roofing. Provide primer according to written recommendations of underlayment manufacturer.

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

A. General: Provide materials and types of fasteners, solder, protective coatings, sealants, and other miscellaneous items as required for complete sheet metal flashing and trim installation and as recommended by manufacturer of primary sheet metal or manufactured item unless otherwise indicated.

B. Fasteners: Wood screws, annular threaded nails, self-tapping screws, self-locking rivets and bolts, and other suitable fasteners designed to withstand design loads and recommended by manufacturer of primary sheet metal or manufactured item.

1. General: Blind fasteners or self-drilling screws, gasketed, with hex-washer head.

a. Exposed Fasteners: Heads matching color of sheet metal using plastic caps or factory-applied coating. Provide metal-backed EPDM or PVC sealing washers under heads of exposed fasteners bearing on weather side of metal.

b. Blind Fasteners: High-strength aluminum or stainless-steel rivets suitable for metal being fastened.

c. Spikes and Ferrules: Same material as gutter; with spike with ferrule matching internal gutter width.

2. Fasteners for Aluminum Sheet: Aluminum or Series 300 stainless steel.

3. Fasteners for Stainless-Steel Sheet: Series 300 stainless steel.

E. Elastomeric Sealant: ASTM C 920, elastomeric silicone polymer sealant; of type, grade, class, and use classifications required to seal joints in sheet metal flashing and trim and remain watertight.

2.5 FABRICATION, GENERAL

A. General: Custom fabricate sheet metal flashing and trim to comply with details shown and recommendations in cited sheet metal standard that apply to design, dimensions, geometry, metal thickness, and other characteristics of item required. Fabricate sheet metal flashing and trim in shop to greatest extent possible.

1. Obtain field measurements for accurate fit before shop fabrication.

2. Form sheet metal flashing and trim to fit substrates without excessive oil canning, buckling, and tool marks; true to line, levels, and slopes; and with exposed edges folded back to form hems.

3. Conceal fasteners and expansion provisions where possible. Do not use exposed fasteners on faces exposed to view.

B. Expansion Provisions: Form metal for thermal expansion of exposed flashing and trim.

1. Form expansion joints of intermeshing hooked flanges, not less than 1 inch (25

mm) deep, filled with butyl sealant concealed within joints.

2. Use lapped expansion joints only where indicated on Drawings.

C. Sealant Joints: Where movable, nonexpansion-type joints are required, form metal to provide for proper installation of elastomeric sealant according to cited sheet metal standard.

D. Fabricate cleats and attachment devices from same material as accessory being anchored or from compatible, noncorrosive metal.

E. Fabricate cleats and attachment devices of sizes as recommended by cited sheet metal standard for application, but not less than thickness of metal being secured.

F. Seams: Fabricate nonmoving seams with flat-lock seams. Form seams and seal with elastomeric sealant unless otherwise recommended by sealant manufacturer for intended use. Rivet joints where necessary for strength.
