About this file

This is a Statement of Objectives (SOO) detailing the requirements for firewood delivery to Golden Spike National Historical Park for use in a steam locomotive. The National Park Service requires 60 tons of softwood firewood (limited to Pine, Redwood, Larch, Cedar, Hemlock, Spruce, Whitewood, or Fir) to be delivered between May 15, 2025, and August 29, 2025, in 10-to-20-ton increments.

The specifications require wood pieces to be 2-3 feet in length with diameters between 6-24 inches, dried for at least one year with moisture content not exceeding 30%. Deliveries must be made via self-unloading vehicle/trailer during business hours (8:00 AM to 4:30 PM MDT, Monday-Friday) to the park located in Promontory Summit, UT. Each delivery will be tested for moisture content using a Delmhorst Model J-2000 meter on five randomly selected pieces. Payment will be based on state-certified scale tickets for accepted deliveries. The contractor must identify wood species for each delivery and any loads not meeting specifications or containing excessive debris will be refused at the contractor's expense.
