Wheelchair Seating Spaces
Provisions for wheelchair seating spaces include a minimum clear ground space, clear width and depth, knee and toe clearance, and firmness and stability.
• Knee clearance should allow a minimum of the following: 27 inches in height, 30 inches in width, and 11 inches in depth (ABAAS 306);
• Toe clearance should allow a minimum of the following: 9 inches in height, 30 inches in width and 17 inches in depth (ABAAS 306);
• Clear ground space for wheelchair seating is a minimum of 30 x 48 inches, with one full-unobstructed side connected to an outdoor recreation access route (ABAS 306);
• Clear ground space requires a minimum of 36 inches along all useable sides of the table, measured from the back edge of the benches. One full-unobstructed side of the clear ground space shall adjoin or overlap an outdoor recreation access route (Draft Final – Outdoor Table 1011.2.1);
• Floor and ground spaces shall be stable, firm and slip resistant (ABAAS 302).
Picnic table finish
• Finish: Sandblasted to SSPC-SP 5/NACE Standard “white finish”, epoxy primed, topcoat. Color: Park Service Brown.
• V-Type 3/4-#9 expanded metal or H-Type 14 ga. perforated steel thermo-plastic coated in Park Service brown color.
• Offerors must provide mechanical drawings in their quotation: Indicate materials, dimensions, tolerances, welding, fasteners, hardware, mounting, and finishes.
• Manufacturer’s Certificates: Certify that products meet or exceed specified requirements
• Offerors must include storage and handling requirements, preparation recommendations and installation methods.
• Picnic tables shall have wider edge banding and more structural supports to create a table built for applications and locations that can be more abusive to the structure. The material shall be suited for high elevation areas where winter snow load can destroy average tables. The V-Type Snow Load design is available on WPTS, Series rectangular tables.
• Snow load rated V-Type expanded steel is 3/4-#9 material with a short longitudinal stretch. A shorter stretch means smaller “diamond” openings, which leaves more material (steel) per foot. The more diamonds there are per lineal foot is more steel left in the structure. Therefore, the components will be stronger. It is also called the “long way design, non-flattened expanded metal”. “Non-flattened” means the steel is “on edge” around the diamonds. This provides a stronger, more rigid material.
• Steel frame tables shall be capable of withstanding weight loads of up to 1420 pounds per square foot.
• Manufacture warranty limited 3 year on all site furnishings. This warranty does not cover any defects or failures resulting from vandalism, man-made or natural disasters, and lack of maintenance, accidents, negligence, or wear and tear due to public abuse.
• Picnic tables must be shipped un-assembled.
• All components must be pre-drilled or punched and ready for assembly.
