About this file
This document is a Minimum Salient Characteristics specification for a 72-inch commercial zero-turn mower required as part of a federal contract opportunity.
The specified mower must be equipped with a Kawasaki FX1000 EFI or equivalent commercial EFI engine producing a minimum of 38.5 horsepower with 999 cubic centimeters displacement in a V-twin configuration. The mower requires a dual hydrostatic drive system utilizing Hydro-Gear 21 cubic centimeter PY pumps and Parker TG wheel motors or equivalent commercial-duty components, with a maximum forward ground speed of at least 14 miles per hour. The 72-inch fabricated commercial mowing deck must provide a cut height range of 1 to 5.5 inches with foot-operated deck lift and blade tip speed of approximately 18,500 feet per minute or greater. The hydraulic system must include a 3-gallon reservoir with oil cooler, fan, and hot-oil shuttle, utilizing stainless hydraulic lines with Parker Seal-Loc fittings. Additional requirements include a commercial suspension seat with 3-inch travel and adjustable armrests, twin-lever zero-turn steering controls, dual fuel tanks with approximately 12 US gallons total capacity, 13×6.5-6 semi-pneumatic front tires, and 24×12-12 turf tread drive tires. The welded frame constructed from 1.5-inch by 3-inch rectangular tube must support a weight of approximately 1,676 pounds for the rear-discharge configuration, with overall dimensions of 93 inches in length, 78 inches in width with discharge chute elevated, and 46.8 inches in height at base or 72.5 inches with ROPS installed. The mower must include automatic parking brake engagement when control levers are moved outward and provide productivity of approximately 8.14 acres per hour at 72-inch deck width with 80 percent efficiency. Warranty requirements specify a minimum five-year manufacturer warranty or 1,200 operating hours, whichever occurs first, with no hour limitation during the first two years, plus a separate engine warranty of not less than three years.
