About this file

This document is a set of technical construction drawings and specifications for the Fort Howes Water Storage Tank Replacement project managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Eastern Montana Dakotas District Office in Fort Howes, Montana.

The project involves the demolition of an existing 19,000-gallon concrete water storage cistern and installation of a new 20,000-gallon reinforced fiberglass construction (FRP) water storage tank. Key construction requirements include: replacement of existing water supply and drain piping with new PVC lines; installation of new gate valves, frost-free hydrants, and check valves; trenching to a minimum depth of 6.0 feet with specified backfill materials and compaction standards; installation of geotextile fabric and stone bedding layers around the tank; pressure testing and disinfection of all new waterline piping per AWWA standards; and compliance with OSHA excavation requirements (1926.651). The new tank specifications require NSF-approved fittings, a Xerxes single-wall FRP tank design with precast deadman hold-down strap system, 30-inch manway access with hinged lockable cover, NSF-approved tangential nozzles for inlet and drain outlets, and a vent pipe with bug screen. The contractor must use manufacture-certified installers and submit test reports for soil compaction, tank pressure tests, and material certifications to the contracting office. The project drawings include site schematics, demolition plans, tank profile details, thrust block requirements, gate valve assembly details, standard utility trench specifications, and deadman installation dimensions specific to a 10-foot diameter tank.
