About this file

This document is an architectural drawing set for The Clara Jayles Gladding Memorial Y.M.C.A. Building located at Fort Hancock, New Jersey, dated 1901. The drawings were prepared by architect Wm. E. Bloodgood from 149 Broadway, New York City.

The architectural plans include a complete set of construction documents comprising seven sheets. Sheet 1 presents the first-story floor plan showing the cellar layout and primary floor spaces including an exercise room, parlor, lunch room, general reading room, and corridors. Sheet 2 depicts the second and third stories, illustrating classroom spaces (Class Rooms A and B), library, gallery, and an unfinished attic area. Sheets 3 and 4 provide exterior elevations showing the front (west) and south facades, rear (east) elevation, and north elevation, all rendered in a classical architectural style with mansard roofs, dormer windows, and ornamental details. Sheet 5 contains longitudinal and cross-sectional details demonstrating the building's internal vertical organization and structural configuration. Sheet 6 presents a plot plan indicating the YMCA building's placement on the property relative to surrounding landscape features, including a grandstand structure, gatehouse, carriage entrance, and parade ground. All drawings are scaled at 1/8 inch to 1 foot, with architectural details rendered in pencil on linen, typical of early 20th-century institutional building design documentation.
