SECTION 02315

PART 1: GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Section Includes: Grading and placement of existing materials and imported materials for the construction of an ADA compliant trail.

1.2 PROJECT/SITE CONDITIONS

A. Allowable Work Limits: As per Section 01009, 1.1 C.

PART 2: PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIALS

A. General: See Section 02730.

PART 3: EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL

A. Trail Grading: Prior to placement of imported trail aggregate, grade trail subgrade according to the “Typical Section Views” as shown on the drawings.

Compact as described in 3.2, A.

B. Frozen Material: Shall not be placed, nor be placed upon a frozen surface.

3.2 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Compaction:

1. Trail Compaction: Immediately following final spreading and smoothing, each layer shall be compacted full width. Compaction shall be accomplished by means of a vibratory roller smooth drum compactor, minimum 48-inch drum width, and minimum 10,000 dynamic force, or approved equal. A minimum of three passes shall be made over the entire width of the area and continued until the material visibly stops compacting.

Add or remove water when necessary to obtain compaction.

2. Turnout Compaction: In areas of the trail where the wheeled compactor will not be able to achieve compaction due to features along the trail, like interoperative signs or width between structures, compaction shall be accomplished by means of a vibratory plate compactor, minimum 3,500 lbs. compacting force, or approved equal. A minimum of three passes shall be made over the entire width of the area and/or continued until the material visibly stops compacting. Add or remove water when necessary to obtain compaction.

4.1 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT

A. Units: The work described in this section will not be measured for payment.

4.2 BASIS OF PAYMENT

A. Payment: No direct payment for the work described under this section will be made. Consideration for this item shall be included in the bid price for other items of the Contract.
