About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for construction services at Creston National Fish Hatchery in Kalispell, Montana. The primary objective is to replace a septic line running from the Hatchery Building to the sewage lift station, replacing metal septic infrastructure constructed in 1968 that is subject to freezing due to shallow burial depth and proximity to groundwater. The work must be performed between July 1, 2026 and August 31, 2026, during normal duty hours of Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The contractor shall excavate a trench 6 feet deep and approximately 160 feet long, with planning for potential rocky earth conditions due to proximity to an active glacier and flowing water source. The contractor must provide and install a new 4-inch High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe installed 6 feet below grade, pressure tested according to local, state, and federal regulations, and connected to both the Hatchery Building and sewage lift station. The scope includes installing a minimum of two pipe cleanouts with threaded adapters capped 12 inches above grade, installing orange safety fencing around the open trench (minimum 4 feet high with 12-inch standoff), and backfilling the trench with compaction every 24 inches following system verification by the designated U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service representative. The contractor must provide all piping, materials, components, equipment, and related documentation. The Government will provide restrooms, electricity, and water access during work. Quality control and assurance will be conducted by designated hatchery personnel with the hatchery manager serving as the approving authority. The Technical Coordinator is Kristopher Johnson (Kristopher_B_Johnson@fws.gov).
