About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details a herbicide application project for the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge (CMR NWR) in Montana. The project involves treating approximately 1,000 acres of Japanese brome-infested sagebrush rangelands and scattered timber near the Soda Creek drainage. The contractor must apply Indazaflam herbicide at 5 oz per acre with drift control agent, using water as specified on the label, during either fall 2025 (August 15th to November 1st) or spring 2026 (April 15th to May 15th).

Key contractor requirements include holding a current Montana Commercial Herbicide Application license, carrying $1,000,000 in commercial liability insurance, using clean equipment free of invasive species, and following all state and federal herbicide regulations. The CMR Refuge staff will provide maps indicating specific spray areas, and the contractor must submit a pesticide application record as required by Montana law. Technical coordinators for the project are Bill Sparklin and Ty Matthews, wildlife biologists from Montana and Idaho, respectively.
