About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details an urgent cleaning project for the clarifier at Jones Hole National Fish Hatchery (NFH) in Utah. The primary objective is to remove substantial organic sediment that has accumulated over 10 years due to lack of maintenance, with a critical goal of preventing potential contamination by Whirling Disease and New Zealand Mudsnails that could compromise the hatchery's fish production. The project requires a 50-ton crane with an operator to lower a 10,000-pound skid steer into the multi-cell clarifier, collect sediment, transfer it to a dumping skid bucket, and remove the waste, to be completed within 5 days or 50 hours during normal working hours of 7:00 am to 3:30 pm at the hatchery's location in Vernal, Utah.

STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW)
Urgent Cleaning Services for Clarifier
Jones Hole NFH, UT
Background:
The Jones Hole NFH is a large cold water fish culture operation working to produce native trout and salmon for the states of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. Currently the hatchery has an indoor culture room and 50 outdoor raceways. Both the indoor culture room and the raceway systems flow into a clarifier (see photo next page) at the bottom end of the culture system. The clarifier is required by law and is used to catch heavy solids, fish waste, and unused feed before the water flows into Jones Hole Creek.
When the clarifier was installed, standard operation required yearly cleaning to maintain fish health and decrease risk of unwanted critters from entering the raceways. Over the past 10-years or so, the clarifier has not been drained and cleaned because of low staffing and heavy workloads.
With no yearly cleaning, the clarifier has collected a substantial amount of organic material that needs to be removed.
Currently the hatchery is surrounded by Whirling Disease and New Zealand Mudsnails, both are prohibited in hatcheries stocking fish in Utah Waters. Currently both Whirling Disease and New
Zealand Mudsnails are not found inside the hatchery culture systems. If either of these two invasive species is found in the culture system, the hatchery will be closed, and fish destroyed.
Objectives:
The main goal of this urgent project is to protect and prevent the hatchery from being infected.
With the clarifier being so full of solids, there is large concern that Whirling Disease and New
Zealand Mudsnails will become colonized within the clarifier and work their way into the culture raceways and culture room.
This request is for crane services, specifically a 50-ton crane with an operator, for a duration of 5 days or 50 hours and a dumping skid bucket. The crane will be used to lower a skid steer into the clarifier to collect solid waste, which will then be transferred into a Dumping Skid Bucket attached to the crane. The crane will subsequently lift and empty the bucket into a dump truck for proper removal of the waste.
