SCOPE OF WORK

SUPPLY AND INSTALL COURTESY/MOORING DOCK

Description: The National Park Service located at 10477 Hwy 90W, Del Rio, Texas has requirement for a courtesy dock as described in the following specifications.

The successful vendor will deliver, assemble and deploy dock to Amistad National Recreation Area.

A courtesy dock will be purchased by the National Park Service (NPS) for use by all ages an ability levels including the physically challenged.

The new dock must be made to the following specifications and dimensions:

Engineer Approval- The dock system shall be designed and approved by a licensed engineer and fabricated by a dock manufacturer is in the business of design and fabrication of dock systems.

DESIGN CRITERIA

Industry Standards – It is the intent of the NPS to have all work done in a professional manner, according to industry standards. All work will be constructed to meet or exceed the following specifications and designs. NPS has not attempted to provide detailed specifications on all facets of the work to by preformed.

Applicable Standards-

A. Uniform Building Code B. American Institute of Steel Construction “Specifications for the Design, Fabrication, and Erection of Steel for Buildings” and “Code of Standard Practices for Steel Buildings and Bridges”.

C. American Society “Standard Code for Arc and Gas Welding in Building Construction”.

D. American Wood Preservers Association standards for wood treatment and retention as specified herein.

E. ASCE Report #50 “Small Craft Harbors” 1969 edition as modified herein or current addition.

Design Loads A. Water Action – Currents, Tides and Waves: Structure shall be designed for resistance in accordance with Chapter 21, “Harbor Engineering”, American Civil Engineer Practice, 1956. This structure and system shall be designed to withstand storm conditions of up to 4.5 foot waves on a periodic, not continual basis.

B. Wind – Provide a system to withstand a uniform horizontal wind load from any direction at 70 MPH winds on all projected surfaces.

C. Dead Load – Dead load shall be the entire weight of the floating unit and permanently installed equipment including walkway ends and other accessories and appurtenances.

D. Live Load – Live loads for various components.

E. Structural Load – Provide a 50 LBS/sq. ft minimum structural load for dock, ramp, gangway and spans.

F. Substructure – Substructure shall support full live load across a thirty (30) foot spans.

G. Deck Surfaces – Deck surfaces shall support a concentrated 300 LBS plus 33 percent impact (total 400 LBS) applied over an 12”x 8 feet and 50 LBS/SQ FT applied to the full surface area of the dock.

H. Flotation – Flotation units shall be designed to support the deadload plus 30 psf live load and resist a 400 LB vertical pint load oat any point on the deck without violation of the freeboard or torsion design requirements.

I. Freeboard – Freeboard under deadload only shall be 18 inches. Freeboard under deadload and 30 LBS/Sq Ft live load shall not be less than 14 inches.

Overall Dimensions The new floating dock shall consist of:

(1) 8’ x 200’ dock

(2) 4’ x 20’ gangway to access the dock from land Description of Materials Galvanized steel frame 12” deep box truss design with main structural side chords and ends fabricated from 2” x 2” x 3/16 angle to create 100% full load transfer.

Main structure frame members shall be a minimum of 2” x 2” x 3/16” angle Bolted connections in horizontal plane for added strength for wave movement.

Composite decking Wood polymer composite 1” x 6” x 8’ low maintained recycled wood and plastic decking attached to frame on 2’ maximum spans. Certified green environmentally friendly decking made from at least 90% recycled material. The decking must be gray in color.

Polyethylene Floats Shell shall be roto-molded polyethylene, resistant to marine life and petroleum. Core shall be expanded polystyrene block molded inside the shell. Shell thickness shall be a minimum of .1250” ARM STD +/- 20%. Secured to the frame at six locations with galvanized hardware.

Boomerang fendering/rub rail Double 2” x 6” composite recycled side wood (same specifications as decking) on the perimeter.

Double 2” x 6” molded and bonded commercial marine grade side guard cushion on top of side wood on the perimeter.

Winch and Cable Anchorage System 2 Winches with 21” wide drum 2 speed gears – adjust easily Elevated winch stand and multi-directional fairlead – easy use, reduces cable wear ½ galvanized cable and clamps – 250 feet per winch Anchors to be a minimum of 7000 pounds.

Mooring devices 8” Aluminum deck cleats

Gangway Aluminum gangway:

4’Wx20’L aluminum “anti-slip” gangway, handrail (at least three-foot-high from gangway), hinge and roller assembly.

Cross member supports underneath gangway should be at least 4 feet apart, but not more than 6 feet apart, the length of the gangway.

Warranties Two year material limited warranty Ten year floatation box limited warranty

Drawings Vendor must provide drawings/sketches/schematics of the unit they supply so replacement parts could be ordered if necessary.
