Mesa Verde National Park Scope / Statement of Work (SOW) Herbicide Storage Facility Purchase

Statement of Work

Task Order / Project Title:

Purchase of Herbicide Storage Facility

Park / Park Unit:

MEVE

Task Order#:

Prepared By:
Andrew Spear, COR
Date:
05/30/2023

1.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION / SUMMARY:

MEVE Natural Resources is purchasing an herbicide storage facility. The new facility will replace a storage shipping container that has been used for herbicide storage which does not meet the needs for proper storage due to the lack of climate control and proper ventilation.

2.0 OBJECTIVES:

This purchase will meet the needs for proper herbicide storage. The facility will be climate controlled to ensure that herbicides are not exceeding low and high storage temperatures. It must have proper ventilation to ensure employee safety when working within the facility. It must be built with sump containment to properly contain large herbicide spills. Lighting will be adequate for employee safety. The facility will be large enough with suitable shelving and storage. This purchase will ensure that employees working with herbicide are operating in a safe facility and that herbicide being stored follows label requirements.

3.0 BACKGROUND:

MEVE uses a wide range of herbicides to manage non-native invasive plant species found throughout the park. The existing herbicide storage facility, a retrofitted shipping container, at MEVE is not an appropriate or safe facility. It lacks adequate lighting and ventilation making it unsafe for employees working in the space. The lack of climate control causes herbicides to repeatedly freeze and thaw, impacting their effectiveness and shelf life. The current facility lacks spill sump capacity and relies on inadequate secondary containment trays that are not built into the facility. It is important for MEVE to have an adequate storage facility for the health and safety of employees and to ensure that herbicide is properly stored and is effective when applied for management.
