About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document from the Florida Department of Transportation's Procurement Office regarding Bid No. DOT-ITB-25-9038-SJ for Aluminum Materials (Rebid). The bid opening is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM EST. The procurement involves round aluminum extrusions, specifically requiring single-piece 34-foot lengths that cannot be welded together from shorter sections.

The document clarifies that the original contract had to be rebid after the previous awardee was removed, with these materials being essential for the Department's Aluminum Shop operations. The Q&A addresses technical specifications, confirming that while standard tubing comes in 20-foot sections, this contract specifically requires single-piece extrusions rather than welded sections, particularly for items like the 208-001 (.125" x 2.5" x 34') component.

BID Title: Aluminum Materials (Rebid)

OPENING DATE: Wednesday January 22, 2025 @ 10:00 AM EST

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS PROVIDED BELOW

Question 1 Why was this purchase rebid and not awarded the first time?

Answer 1 They were awarded the first time for the current contract and later had to be removed.

They are items that are needed by our Aluminum Shop so we are having to rebid.

Question 2 The bid request list on page 3 appears to be for standard round aluminum tubes. The profile drawing on page 5 indicates that the request maybe for extruded aluminum lengths. Please clarify if the request is for round tubing.

Answer 2 The contract calls for Round Aluminum Extrusions because of the lengths.

Question 3

Also, tubing is manufactured in 20’ long sections - please clarify if the lengths requested will be needed in single sections. For example, second line item: 208-001 .125" x 2.5" x 34’, is the request here for a 34’ long tube (or extrusion) in one piece?

This would require welding a 20’ section to a 14’ section to achieve the 34’ length. Or would these be bid as 2 individual 20’ and 14’ lengths for each 34’ tube request?

Answer 3 Yes, it is required that we get one single 34’ extrusion. Tubing may NOT be welded to form one full length of 34’.
