About this file
This is a detailed requirements document for ship yard maintenance work on an 87-foot Torpedo Weapons Retriever/Security Craft (TWR6) for the Naval Research Laboratory. The document outlines 13 major maintenance tasks including hull maintenance (above and below waterline), deck maintenance, superstructure work, sea chest maintenance, fuel tank repairs, hydraulic system maintenance, and various mechanical inspections.
Key requirements include dry docking the vessel, complete hull painting with aluminum-compatible paint, replacement of zinc anodes, NDT testing, deck non-skid application, fuel tank repairs (including two aft tank cracks), cleaning and inspection of multiple tank systems, and detailed inspections of propulsion systems, steering, and bow thruster. The work must be performed within 50 miles of Chesapeake Beach, MD (vessel's homeport) or include bidder-funded towing. The vessel is berthed in Fishing Creek with channel width restrictions of 50 feet and water depths under 6 feet in some areas. All work requires Naval Research Laboratory Code 3522 personnel as witnesses for quality assurance activities, and any additional repairs discovered during inspections must be pre-approved by the Naval Research Laboratory Contracting Officer.
