About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA Marshall Space Flight Center's requirements for laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) printing and post-processing of advanced nickel-based alloys under the InRoDES project. The document outlines six primary tasks: Component Builds, Surface Enhancements, Powder Sourcing, Support Equipment Procurement, High Cycle Fatigue Testing, and Cleaning. Key requirements include providing an EOS L-PBF machine available for 432 hours per month, completing chemical mechanical polishing, sourcing necessary powder, procuring additional project components, performing high cycle fatigue testing, and ensuring parts are cleaned according to NASA specifications.
The contract period of performance runs from April 21, 2025 through December 21, 2025, with all deliverables to be shipped to Central Receiving at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Deliverables include built parts, service specifications, powder certifications, part specifications, testing data, and cleaning reports. The project focuses on developing complex hardware such as injectors, nozzles, inner and outer bodies using specialized NASA nickel-based burn resistant alloys like ORCAlloy-21 and GRX-810, with an emphasis on coordinating closely with NASA technical points of contact throughout the development process.

NASA AM GRX-810 Hardware and Post Processing
Statement of Work (SOW)
March 20, 2025
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), specifically Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) has a need for laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) printing and post processing of novel additively manufactured (AM) NASA Nickel-based burn resistant alloys such as ORCAlloy-21 and additional oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) based alloys such as GRX-810. Under the InRoDES project, printing of these parts is required to allow for successful project completion.
Task 1, Component Builds
1. The vendor shall provide an EOS L-PBF machine with parameters for builds using the burn resistant Ni-based alloys including ORCAlloy-14 other ODS-based custom NASA alloys such as GRX-810, and standard AM alloys.
2. The machine shall be made available for a minimum 432 hours per month. An estimated minimum run time of 60% is estimated to maintain machine capacity.
3. The total period of printing availability shall be 1 month of machine time shall be made available and include a kickoff meeting with technical points of contact (POC).
4. Vendor shall notify NASA of any errors or issues during development builds.
5. Vendor shall notify NASA if powder is switched at any time to a different alloy during the
NASA alloy development builds.
6. Vendor shall complete powder removal after removal from the machine.
7. Powder lots shall be tracked on a best effort basis to determine multiple uses (for additional studies on recycled powder).
8. Vendor shall provide build records and any powder certifications associated for traceability of builds.
9. Parts will include various injectors, nozzles, inner bodies, outer bodies, or other complex hardware.
10. Any excess powder shall be returned to NASA.
11. NASA shall provide ODS alloying of powder as needed. Vendor shall coordinate with
NASA POC’s to process powder.
12. NASA shall provide all geometry and models required for builds.
Task 2, Surface Enhancements
1. The vendor shall complete all chemical mechanical polishing required through integrated components within the hardware.
Task 3, Powder
1. The vendor will source all powder required to complete Task 1.
Task 4, Support Equipment
1. The vendor shall work with NASA to procure and integrate all components needed for the successful completion of the InRoDES project. Parts to be procured may include but are not limited to: fasteners, seals, tubing, raw stock materials, and instrumentation.
Task 5, High Cycle Fatigue Testing
1. The vendor shall complete high cycle fatigue (HCF) testing in coordination with NASA.
2. Sample geometry for HCF testing may be provided by NASA or the vendor may produce their own geometry with the oversight of NASA.
Task 6, Cleaning
1. The vendor shall coordinate with NASA to clean parts per NASA guidelines.
2. Upon delivery parts shall remain compliant with the NASA cleaning specification that has been provided to the vendor.
Period of Performance (POP) April 21, 2025 through December 21, 2025.
Shipping
1. Contractor shall ship or hand deliver all deliverables and process development samples to:
Central Receiving, Bldg 4631 Marshall Space Flight Center Huntsville, AL 35812
Deliverables
1. Parts built under Task 1.
2. Specifications and documentation related to the services preformed under Task 2.
3. Powder certifications from Task 3.
4. Part specifications related to the parts procured under Task 4.
5. Data reports related to the testing preformed under Task 5.
6. Cleaning reports related to the cleaning services performed under Task 6.
