About this file
This document is a clarification regarding Foreign Object Debris (FOD) requirements for a federal contract opportunity. The clarification addresses standards KPL PLN 50007 and KPL PLN 50008, which establish tiered cleanliness protocols for materials and components used in aerospace or flight-critical applications.
The FOD requirements implement a progressive cleanliness standard, beginning with a "visibly clean" baseline inspection as the initial check point. As materials and components move closer to flight hardware integration, they must meet the more stringent "VS sensitive" standard. Materials must be constructed from minimum particle-generating, non-shedding substances that can be effectively cleaned through wiping or vacuuming methods. These specifications ensure that all components used in proximity to flight hardware maintain the highest cleanliness standards to prevent contamination and ensure operational safety and reliability.
