About this file

This is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document for NASA solicitation 80NSSC26934871Q-1 regarding Allen-Bradley Key Switches E1 Controls.

The document addresses supplier inquiries regarding part number specifications and validity. A supplier questioned the meaning of the "F" designation at the end of part numbers, and NASA clarified that "BF" in the part number indicates a switch supplied with a standard block containing two normally open (N.O.) and two normally closed (N.C.) contacts. The document also responds to a supplier's concern that Allen-Bradley could not validate any of the provided part numbers in the Rockwell database. NASA's response explains that the 800TC family consists of heavy-duty 30mm operator devices used for industrial control applications. These are two-position, key-operated selector switches with cylinder lock mechanisms. The part number structure consists of three components: "800TC" identifies the product family and 30mm selector switch designation; the middle portion beginning with "H31" followed by two additional digits represents the specific key code and lock configuration unique to each switch, intentionally allowing multiple keyed different cylinders on the same system; and "BF" identifies the factory-assembled configuration with two normally open and two normally closed contacts. All part numbers in this family follow the same structure of family designation, key code variant, and contact block configuration.

Q&A Document

80NSSC26934871Q-1– Allen-Bradley Key Switches E1 Controls

Q: Our partner supplier is unfamiliar with the "F" letter at the end of each part number. Could NASA elaborate a bit more on this issue?

A. The BF in the part number stands for 2 N.O and 2 N.C. contacts.

Q: Dear Ms. Patterson, We are interested in participating in this opportunity.

However, Alen-Bradley has informed us as follows:

“None of parts numbers you provided are coming up in the Rockwell database. Can you please double check each part number and correct and re-send?

A: The Allen Bradley switches are part of the 800TC family, which is a line of heavy duty 30 mm operator devices used for industrial control applications. These devices are two position, key operated selector switches that use a cylinder lock mechanism.

The irst portion of each part number, “800TC,” identiies the product family and indicates that the device is a 30 mm selector switch. The middle portion of the number, which begins with “H31” and is followed by two additional digits, represents the speciic key code and lock coniguration assigned to that switch. Each different “H31XX” code corresponds to a different keying option, meaning that each switch operates with its own unique key. This is intentional when multiple keyed different cylinders are required on the same system. The inal portion of the part number, “BF,” identiies the factory assembled coniguration and contact arrangement. In this case, “BF” indicates a switch supplied with a standard block containing two normally open and two normally closed contacts.

All part numbers in this family follow this same structure: family designation, key code variant, and contact block coniguration.
