About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for federal contract opportunity 80NSSC26934366Q regarding vacuum jacketed flex hoses.

The hoses are specified for regular use in taking liquid samples from cryogenic storage tanks containing liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. The inner hose must have a ½" internal tube outer diameter with a -8 JIC b-nut (swivel) connection at each end. The outer jacket diameter is flexible as long as the annulus provides sufficient insulation to prevent liquid air formation on the jacket exterior; current solutions range from approximately 2" outer diameter jackets to 1-1/4" outer diameter. All hoses must be manufactured from 316/316L stainless steel to ensure compatibility with both hydrogen and oxygen environments. Suppliers must provide documentation including proof test results, clean certificates, and material certificates. Additionally, suppliers must furnish the part number for the vacuum port on the hoses and the manufacturer and part number of the mating vacuum head. No engineering drawings are available for this procurement.

Q&A Document

80NSSC26934366Q– Vacuum jacketed lex hoses

Q: I am planning on quoting these as jacketed with ½” as the interior hose line, and 1-1/4” size as the jacketed outer hose. That would be standard for a jacketed coniguration with ½” nominal size, though let me know if any different request.

A: yes. ½” is the internal tube OD. There is no strict requirement on the outside diameter of the outer jacket as long as the annulus is suficient to insulate the inner tube. I particular, on the hoses for LH, the insulation from the vacuum jacket should be suficient to prevent the creation of liquid air on the outside of the jacket. Our current hoses have ~2” OD jackets but that is just one solution so the 1-1/4” from email 1 is ok.

Q: Would these hoses be used in a one-time application? Or is this a larger-scope project?

A: These hoses will be used regularly to take liquid samples from cryogenic storage tanks (liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen)

Q: Are there any additional testing / material / manufacturing speciications?

A: hoses should be 316/316L stainless to allow for both hydrogen and oxygen compatibility. Need documentation of proof test, clean cert, and material certs. Also need part number for vacuum port on hoses and the manufacturer and part number of the mating vacuum head.

Q: Can you tell me if the JIC should be -8 size (3/4-16)?

A: yes, the end of each hose should be a -8 JIC b-nut (swivel)

Q: Typically a jacketed hose is going to have an inner hose that is jacketed by an outer hose. If the inner hose is 1/2”, is there a callout for the size of the outer (jacket) hose?

Q: Are there any drawings on these units?

A: no drawings
