About this file
This is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document for federal contract opportunity 80NSSC26928969Q, addressing procurement of an X-ray detector system for nondestructive examination (NDE) of metallic additive manufacturing (AM) builds used in automated inspection applications.
The Q&A clarifies key technical and operational requirements for vendors. The detector panel should not exceed 6 inches in diameter, with detector areas utilizing the full 6-inch diameter preferred over smaller configurations. This is a new procurement, not a replacement system. Software requirements can assume free, government-approved acquisition software for digital radiography; otherwise, vendors must include necessary acquisition software in their proposals. The detector does not require integration with an existing X-ray source and must be capable of remote triggering. The detector will be mounted externally on a vacuum chamber with X-rays transmitted through a window. NASA prefers to install software on local workstations rather than having vendors provide dedicated workstation hardware.

Q&A Document
80NSSC26928969Q – X-ray detector for NDE of metallic AM builds for automated inspection
Q: Is there a preference regarding the size of the panel?
5x6", 4x9", 8x10"
A: The detector area does not to need to be bigger than 6” in diameter. Detector area that utilizes a 6” diameter is preferred (e.g. 5x6” is better than 1x6”).
Q: Is this replacing an existing detector?
A: No
Q: What type of software is required? Can we assume acquisition software for digital radiography?
A: If the software is free and approved for use in the Federal Government, then it can be assumed. Otherwise, the necessary acquisition software should be included in the offer.
Q: Does the software and detector need to be integrated with an existing x-ray source?
A: No, it does not. The detector should be able to be triggered remotely.
Q: Is this going into an enclosure? Or will it be used for ield inspection?
A: The detector will be mounted onto the outside of a vacuum chamber and x-rays will be transmitted via a window.
Q: Will Nasa be installing the SW on local workstations or does a workstation need to be provided?
A: We would prefer to install on a local workstation.
