About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW), dated July 18, 2025, outlines two textile development tasks for NASA's Advanced Textile Custom Development opportunity. Task 1 involves custom modification of Orthofabric's face side using a higher denier expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) yarn system, specifically creating a new warp with ePTFE yarns up to 850 denier and weaving it with existing Nomex and Kevlar ripstop back-side yarns, with a production target of 25 yards. Task 2 builds on the first task by incorporating up to 2 electrostatic discharge (ESD) yarns in a grid or stripe formation, with potential ESD yarns from manufacturers W. Barnet (NegaStat) and Shakespeare (Resistat), also targeting a 25-yard minimum output.

Statement of Work
July 18, 2025
Task 1:
Custom modification of Orthofabric double fabric’s face side using a higher denier ePTFE yarn system. Higher denier/larger size ePTFE, up to 850D, yarns FDI will create new warp with the higher denier ePTFE and weave together with existing back side yarns of Nomex and Kevlar ripstop with yardage output up to 25 yards.
Task 2:
A second trial using the same higher denier ePTFE Orthofabric construction in Task 1 and up to 2 ESD (electrostatic discharge) yarns in a grid or stripe formation resulting in another minimum yardage output of up to 25 yards. The two ESD yarns will be determined between NegaStat and Resistat, manufactured by W. Barnet and Shakespeare respectively.
