About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for NASA's solicitation (80NSSC25904501Q) for Shock Testing of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) Reefing Line Cutters at Element US Space & Defense. The Q&A clarifies key technical details about the shock testing requirements, including that only shock testing will be performed using a half-sine pulse method, with specifications detailed in section 2 of the solicitation. NASA will provide the test fixture, which is capable of holding 6 cutters and will require cutters to be removed and replaced during testing. Additionally, the Q&A confirms that a laser vibrometer is not required for the testing, and mechanically and electrically filtered shock accelerometers can be used.

Q&A Document 80NSSC25904501Q – Shock Testing of GFE Reeing Line Cutters at Element US Space &
Defense.
Q: The scope section calls out both vibration and shock, is it both or only shock?
A: Only Shock testing.
Q: The shock requirements shows a half-sine requirement but the photos in the SOW show it being on a SRS tunable beam, we have both but would need to know if this is a traditional shock or SRS.
A: Half-Sine, I don’t know what pictures you are referring to. The requirements for the half-sine pulse are given in section 2.
Q: Is NASA providing the fixturing?
A: Yes, fixture is described in Test Fixture Description
Q: In the photos provided there seems to be a laser vibrometer. Is this required or can mechanically & electrically filtered shock accelerometers suffice.
A: Laser vibrometer is not required.
Q: Will NASA be installing the cutters into the fixture since it looks like maybe only 2 parts fit (one 8s and one 16s)
A: Nasa will provide the fixture described in the SOW which is capable of holding 6 cutters.
Cutters will need to be removed and replaced during the course of testing.
