1.0 Background
The Broderson 30K mobile crane Load Moment Indicator (LMI) is a peripheral device for the operator to monitor essential information such as load weight, radius capacity, boom angle, length, radius, anti-two block warning, and anemometer.
The current LMI has failed and is no longer able to receive manufacturer service because it has exceeded its life expectancy.
The failure of this system impacts critical center/agency mission support and future business at the center.
2.0 Objectives
The LMI will maintain the crane system’s compliance with NASA-Std, OSHA, and
ASME.
The LMI replacement provides crane operators with critical information to ensure safety and stability during lifting operations.
3.0 Requirements
Unit shall meet or exceed the following requirements:
Minimum display sizes of 4.3 inches o Vendor shall provide fixed mounting hardware securing the display in a location visible to the operator, and without interfering with operator controls.
High resolution LCD screen readable in direct sunlight and with dimmable backlit at night, with accurate color images Large integral memory 2GB and processor speed (600/800 MHz) Provides inputs and outputs on the CAN bus network Self-diagnostic detection of system malfunction Uploading of new information via a USB Stick-No special tools or laptop required with all calibration done from the display screen Display rating up to IP67 and suitable for an indoor or outdoor environment and a temperature range of -20° C to 70°C (-4'F to 158'F). Optional extended temperature of - 40° C to 85° C (-40'F to 185'F)
Supply voltage 11 to 36 V DC Audible and visual alarms Output connection for lock-out circuit for overload and ATB Self - diagnostic mode with fault log CPU and Display in one unit Slip-rings may be required at articulating joints Installation shall include anemometer, with wind speed (units selectable) integrated into the display with LMI readings.
Vendor shall provide all materials, labor, and any fabrication for modification required or otherwise.
2-year parts and on-site (NASA, Armstrong Flight Research Center) labor warranty
Purchase of a new 2024 or newer LMI compatible with Broderson 30K lbs. Mobile Crane, Model IC- 180-1A, and must include delivery to AFRC.

Business hours of AFRC are Monday thru Thursdays 8-to 3pm daily.
4.0 Deliverables
Vendor is responsible for the delivery installation of new LMI, and all required components.
Vendor shall provide all tools and/or peripheral devices necessary to perform equipment installation.
Vendor shall provide documentation that demonstrates the equipment is functioning properly.
Vendor is responsible for ensuring the new LMI is physically and operationally compatible with the Broderson 30K lbs. Mobile Crane, Model IC-180-1A.
Vendor is responsible for providing all electrical and data communication cabling and connectors that interface with LMI sensors, controller, and anemometer.
The vendor shall perform LMI calibration procedures that meet or exceed State (CA) requirements.
Vendor shall provide all materials, labor, and any fabrication for modification required or otherwise.
5.0 Period of Performance
Delivery is required No later than Jan. 30, 2025.
6.0 Travel
Vendor is to provide any travel expense with their quote.
