VENDOR QUESTIONS:

1. Carpet Replacement Scope o Should the quotes for replacing the carpet in the conference room and offices include the cost of breakdown and reassembly of furniture? Are there any specific requirements or constraints regarding handling the furniture?

Breakdown and reassembly of furniture will be required in the conference room and most of the offices.

2. Wall Repair and Painting o For the conference room and entryway walls, is there a preferred type of paint or specific color matching requirements?

New don’t have a color matching requirement. We will have to choose an appropriate shade of paint for these two areas.

o How extensive are the wall repairs expected to be? Can more detailed specifications or a site inspection be arranged to assess the repairs?

The repairs consist of holes where cameras were once installed in the conference room, and smaller holes from items hung on the wall.

3. Cracks in Hallway and Lab Walls o Are the cracks in the hallway and lab walls structural, or are they primarily surface-level cosmetic repairs?

The cracks are likely from the shifting of the metal wall supports. The interior walls themselves are not load bearing, so I would assume they are cosmetic.

o Is the quote for repainting the entire lab optional or mandatory?

Please make it an optional quote. The paint in the lab is generally in good shape.

4. Ceiling Tile Replacement o What specific type or brand of ceiling tiles should be used to replace the damaged ones in the conference room and lab?

I don’t know the specific brand, but they should be identical to what is used now because of the way the ceiling tiles act as part of the air circulation system.

5. Lighting Fixtures o Can the contractor propose alternative LED-compatible fixtures, or must the replacements be identical to the current 2’ by 4’ fluorescent fixtures?

Alternate fixtures are possible as long as the illumination remains the same, but changes in the size of the fixtures could impact the ceiling tiles sizes and configuration.

o How should the contractor handle the existing 480V circuit configuration?

Not really sure how this is a question. The existing system uses 480V. This was provided as information, and we can’t change the source of the power. If the voltage needs to be stepped down for new lights, then that needs to be part of the lighting design.

6. Exterior Logo Installation o Should the metal NASA logo be mounted on the building or on a freestanding concrete support? Are there any preferences or limitations regarding placement?

We would like a quote for each option. The free standing concrete support shouldn’t be much bigger/taller than the NASA logo itself.

7. Stripe and Door Painting o Is there a specific type or brand of paint to be used for the exterior blue stripe and doors?

We have no specific brand chosen.

o Should the weather seal replacement on the glass doors follow any specific material requirements?

Not necessarily, we just need an effective seal to keep rain water from being blown under the doors.

8. Worksite Access and Security o Are there any additional security protocols or background checks required for personnel working at the NASA facility?

The rules for accessing the grounds of the FAA Air Route Traffic Control Center are stringent enough for entry to the NASA facility. All employees must be U. S. citizens, they must have a Real ID to prove their citizenship, and we’ll likely need their names in advance so that they can be admitted to the property.

o Are there restrictions on work hours or days (e.g., weekends, holidays) that could affect project scheduling?

Someone from NASA will need to be present for the admission of the work crew and especially the interior work. Therefore the work hours should be eight hours on weekdays, and not on holidays or weekends. We might be able to work out an exception to that on the NASA side, if we’re allowed to work alternative or extra hours.

9. Period of Performance o Is there flexibility in the start date or duration of the project, especially in case of material delays or unexpected complications?

We are likely to have an important group visit the facility in November or December. The date for that visit has not been determined yet. I would not want most of the work to start if it cannot be completed before that visit, and I don’t know how long it will take to award the contract. We would likely have some start date flexibility after that visit, but we’d like the work to be completed without interruption so that it minimizes the disruptions in our building.
