About this file

This document is a set of Questions and Answers related to a federal contract opportunity for an Optical Extensometer. The key details are:

The chamber specifications include dimensions of 161.5mm depth to the specimen and 129mm depth to the mounting location. The fused silica windows are not currently heated but thermal models do not show a need for heating at 40K. The windows have over 95% transmission in the visible spectrum and 80-50 Scratch-Dig surface quality. Standard 6-inch green LED illumination is expected to be sufficient.

The load frame uses stationary round columns with 65mm diameter, and the extensometer is to be mounted to the front of the chamber using a custom in-house designed bracket that provides angular adjustment in pitch, yaw, and roll. Any of the Epsilon ONE mounting systems (ONE-MS-01, ONE-MS-02, ONE-MS-03, or ONE-MS-04) would be acceptable as they all include a provision for angular adjustment.

1. Chamber Specificaons:

o What are the exact dimensions of the chamber, specifically the depth to the specimen

("A") and the chamber depth to mounng locaon ("B")? Distance A = 161.5mm, Distance B is approx. 129mm.

o Are the fused silica windows heated or designed to prevent frost and dew at low temperatures (40K)?

Windows are not currently heated. Thermal models do not show the need for heang at this me.

o Is the chamber window transparent to green light (530 nm), and is it scratch-free?

Window transmission is >95% over visible spectrum, with 80-50 Scratch-Dig surface or beter.

o Is the chamber window width (described as greater than 3.0 inches) sufficient to use standard illuminaon, or is custom illuminaon required? Standard collimated 6 inch length Green LED illuminaon should be sufficient.

2. Mounng System:

o What type of test frame is used in the setup (vercal T-slot channels, base mounng, staonary round columns)? Load frame uses staonary round columns with 65mm diameter. However, we ancipate the extensometer to be mounted to the front of the chamber using an in-house designed custom bracket. We only require that the Extensometer mount include provision for angular adjustment in pitch, yaw, and roll axis with respect to the instrument line of sight.

o Based on the test frame type, which Epsilon ONE mounng system (ONE-MS-01, ONE- MS-02, ONE-MS-03, or ONE-MS-04) is most suitable? Any of these opons would be acceptable, since they all include a provision for angular adjustment of the extensometer. We expected to ulize the poron of the mount that provides angular adjustment, but not the poron that would clamp to any load frame column.

These quesons will guide the response to ensure all aspects of the procurement and system integraon are covered.
