80NSSC22804924Q- Self Cleaning Filter to replace existing unit in Bldg 38 Rm SW21.

Q: What is the water being used for. Also, the new self-cleaning filter that’s being installed, is it for multimedia purposes

A: The media in the system is our Cooling Tower Water which is city water that is chemically treated for our cooling towers. We sometimes see Algae residue in our filters. The flushing filter is upstream of our main filter which has 90-micron elements. Both filtering systems are upstream of our two high pressure water pumps capable of producing 1500-psig pressure @ 200-gpm each for a total of 400-gpm flow. The flushing filter will see approximately 60-70 psig pressure but we are asking it to have a MAWP of 150-psig.

Q: 1) Our standard design filter doesn’t exactly match up to the 34.5” inlet to outlet center to center dimension. Is this acceptable? If not, we can provide a spool piece that will address the need of 34.5” inlet to outlet center to center. Can you confirm the material required? Does it need to be 316ss, 304ss or is carbon steel acceptable?

2) Our standard controller does not meet the specification for 3.5” color LCD screen, MODBUS TCP communication, or 2 analog/4 relay outputs. If we take exception, will you accept proposals for alternative controllers?

A: For question (1) There is a line item in the specifications sheet addressing part of this question.

• Inlet and Outlet nozzles shall have 6” Class 150# Raised Face flanges located 34.5” apart (Note, if the nozzles distance dimension is not met then the cost of modifying existing piping will be a contributing factor in the cost decision)

The cost of modifying our piping will be considered when reviewing the offers.

A spool piece being used to generate the correct distance is an option. How will it affect the U-Stamp rating? Will the spool piece be part of the U-Stamp and included in the U-1 form?

For question (2) we can accept proposals for alternative controllers.

Q: Can I please get a copy of the layout/diagram of where this filter will be installed to get a better understanding of the clearances and piping arrangements?

A: Will a picture help. This is the only piping layout drawing and it’s called out as an existing filter. It’s shown on the drawing as WS356 in Zone F3
