About this file

This attachment to an RFP contains acoustic improvement drawings and material specifications for Bass Concert Hall at the University of Texas at Austin. The document outlines nine distinct treatment areas designed to address echo and reverberation issues caused by hard wall finishes and improperly functioning acoustic elements within the venue. Treatment Areas 1, 2, and 3 require installation of 2-inch thick felt/PET sound-absorbing panels (such as Unikavaev Ecoustic) over hard wall surfaces at niche corners and the in-house audio mix booth. Treatment Areas 4, 5, and 6 address wood slat-covered sound-absorbing materials at the house rear wall through installation of 5mm plywood covering and 2-inch thick felt/PET sound-absorbing panels, with alternative acceptable solutions including stretched fabric systems with 2-inch 6 pcf fiberglass absorption. Treatment Area 7 involves manually extending drapery to physical limit stops by disconnecting cables between curtains and motors. Treatment Areas 8 and 9 require installation of 4-inch thick, 4-foot wide lapendary panels above catwalks at 6-10 feet below the roof deck, with approximately 3-foot festoons on 12-foot centers and minimum 8-foot clearance above catwalks.

The proposal must include sketches and approximate square footages with breakout prices by treatment area to allow for partial awards if necessary. Bidders should propose materials equivalent to the basis of design, with final color and material selections coordinated with the owner prior to procurement. All necessary means of access must be included, and work must be coordinated with the venue's event schedule, requiring estimated work days for completion during dark periods between events. The document provides comprehensive technical specifications for two primary product types: Ecoustic Panels available in four thicknesses (0.31", 0.53", 0.98", and 1.97") with 38 color options, Class A fire rating, and recycled PET composition; and MBI Lapendary Panels available in 1-4 inch thicknesses up to 4 feet wide and 40 feet long with Class A fire rating, multiple finish options (PVC film, sailcloth, polyester fabrics), and acoustic absorption coefficients ranging from NRC 0.70 to 1.15.

Lapendary® Panels are large, unique acoustical banners hung in a loose catenary fashion or installed flush to the roof deck for a flat appearance with minimum festoon. The original Lapendary Panel was developed in 1987 by MBI in response to the growing demand for proper acoustics in today’s larger indoor venues. Arenas and other multi-purpose facilities require a sound environment conducive to both athletic events and musical performances.

Lapendary Panels reduce reverberation time and sound intensity levels in harsh acoustical environments. This results in increased speech intelligibility, better communication and improved quality of sound systems, allowing your venue to become a multi-functional space.

The effectiveness and success of the Lapendary Panel can be seen in any of the 120+ arenas that chose world class acoustics from MBI Products Company.

• Store products in a cool, dry and temperature controlled interior location not less than 40°F prior to, during and after installation.

• Store products out of direct UV sunlight.

• Store and protect products from the elements and from damage.

• Due to the nature of this product, some wrinkling and puckering is common and unavoidable.

• Field cutting is not recommended, but possible with instructions from manufacturer.

• Sailcloth is not recommended for high humidity or high UV areas.

• Suspension hardware is not to be pre-installed.

• Do not subject acoustical products to critical edge lighting without first consulting manufacturer.

• Before installing Lapendary panels, please request copies of installation drawings and details.

• Refer to “Keeping and Maintaining Your Lapendary Panels”

Caution: Lapendary® Panels require custom engineering since every interior space is different. Please consult MBI for assistance when specifying Lapendary® Panels.

Lapendary® Panels are made from an inherently soft fiberglass core so some transverse wrinkling in the PVC finish is common and unavoidable.
