Statement of Work (SOW)
1. Project Title
Maintenance contract for ThermoFisher Scientific Talos L120C Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM).
2. Introduction and Background
The NHLBI EM Core offers comprehensive electron microscopy services to NIH researchers, supporting both clinical and basic science research aligned with each Institute’s mission.
The EM Core operates ThermoFisher Scientific Talos L120C Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), a highly advanced TEM scope that offers several unique features and advantages. One of the main advantages of the Talos is its high-resolution imaging capabilities, with a maximum resolution of 0.12 nm, making it ideal for studying the ultrastructure of materials and biological specimens. Additionally, the Talos has a highly automated user interface with a range of software tools for automated data acquisition, Tomography, 3D reconstruction and data analysis, making it easier and more efficient for researchers to use. Maintaining the instrument in reliable operating condition is critical to the continuity of the EM Core and the broader mission of NHLBI. The instrument requires yearly preventative maintenance, replacement of consumables, and occasional unforeseen repairs and hardware/software upgrades. This requires specialized highly trained engineers who know how to work with the instrument’s sensitive machinery, and who possess the proprietary knowledge.
