About this file
This document is an Amendment 0001 Questions and Answers file for a 3-Axis Milling Machine solicitation from the Department of Health and Human Services Food and Drug Administration. The Q&A clarifies technical specifications and installation requirements for the milling machine, specifically addressing machine capabilities and setup expectations.
Key details include confirmation that the milling machine must have x and y digital readout (DRO) feeds, with a z-axis readout being desirable but not mandatory. The vendor is required to handle machine delivery and offloading at the facility, with the government preferring a factory technician to perform installation, setup, and operational testing to ensure proper machine functionality. The solicitation seeks a three-axis milling machine that meets detailed specifications outlined in an attached Requirements Document.

Questions and Answers
1. Q: When they say 3 axis machine, are they referring to the power feeds on the x,y and z?
A: Yes, x,y,z autofeed
1. Q: But the DRO only needs to be x and y?
A: It is just that x,y feed DRO are more common. If it has a Z readout, that is great too. It must have x and y though.
1. Q: Does installation and set-up mean that you need a rigging company to bring the mill into your Facility, or does the Lab have their own ability to offload and bring the mill into the facility.
A: The provider must be able to get the mill off the truck and into the shop. If they can provide a full installation that is more than acceptable too.
1. Q: We also understand you want a factory tech to do the set up and training A: We would like to have the installation and testing of the machine done by the provider, to ensure proper operation. The set-up and operational check is to ensure the unit is operational as set up.
